Episode 86 : LET THE RIGHT ONE IN / Top 3 Undead Movie Characters

Summary:    LET THE RIGHT ONE IN   This week in THE Q we delve deeply into the very affecting Swedish film from 2008... It goes something like this. Oskar, a fragile, anxious boy, living in a small Swedish town, is regularly bullied but never strikes back. The lonely boy's wishes daily for a friend and one day (just like the snow) that wish seems to fall upon him when he meets 12 year old Eli, the girl who moves in next door.. A pale, serious young thing who ONLY comes out at night, seems wise beyond her years, and not at all affected by the freezing temperatures. Coinciding with Eli's arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. One man is found tied to a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten on the neck. Blood seems to be the common denominator – and for an introverted boy like Oskar, who’s FASCINATED by gruesome stories, it doesn't take long before he figures out that Eli may just be the things that horror stories are made from. But soon their fascination with each other leads to a subtle romance, one that gives Oskar the strength to fight back against his aggressors. As they grow closer though, Oskar becomes increasingly aware of the tragic, inhuman dimension of Eli, and of what her existence may lead to - still, Oskar cannot bring himself to forsake her, and with all the burgeoning feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent, he KNOWS that Eli can only continue to live if she continually moves on, but when Oskar is suddenly faced with his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can… After it’s (2008) release, Let the Right one In received widespread critical praise. In 2010, Empire magazines ranked it #15 on it’s  "Top 100 Films Of World Cinema” and has recently been placed # 28 On TIME OUT’S poll of the most important horror films of all time – as voted on by actors, writers and directors who have worked in the Horror Genre.All of this plus our "Top 3 Undead Movie Characters"...
