Cloud Object Storage EMCcode and S3motion with Kendrick Coleman

Gregs Server StorageIO Data Infrastructure Podcast show

Summary: In this episode, @EMCcode (Part of EMC) developer advocate Kendrick Coleman (@KendrickColeman and www.kendrickcoleman.com) join me in a web conversation. EMCcode is a group within EMC that is involved with various open source activities both internal and external focused spanning Openstack to Pivotal Cloudfoundry along with existing EMC products as well as those of others including public and private cloud and object storage solutions. We get started by talking about springtime in Kentucky where Kendrick lives along with his new look that could allow him to dress up as @Captainobvious if needed, then exploring more about what EMCcode is about. From there we get into a discussion about cloud and object storage, buckets, containers, objects, docker and microservices, node.js as well as the need for a tool such as S3motion. S3motion is a tool available free (its open source) that I have been using myself for moving buckets and objects between different cloud and object storage solutions and services. Kendrick explains the motivation behind S3motion along with trends in and around objects as well as programming among related topic themes and how context matters. We close with Kendrick giving a great perspective of the one constant is change, something we will have to pick up on in a future discussion.
