Database, Server, I/O Performance and SLOB discussion with Kevin Closson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:10

In this episode, @Kevinclosson Oracle and Database performance expert as well as create of Silly Little Oracle Benchmark (SLOB) joins me in a web conversation. Kevin has been involved in database performance (and porting) optimization for decades which means CPU server, memory, I/O and storage issues, resources and tuning. Part of server, storage I/O a tuning is understanding the workloads, also the demands of software such as databases along with how they use CPU and its impact on resources. We also discuss metrics, gaining insight to resources uses, what they mean including how CPU wait may be costing your lost productivity with overhead, as well as benchmarks, simulations, and related themes. Check out Kevins website ( https://kevinclosson.net/ ) to learn more about Oracle, Databases, SLOB, tools and other content. Also check out www.storageio.com/performance for additional performance, benchmark, workload simulation tools including SLOB. Ok, nuff said, for now...

Cloud Object Storage EMCcode and S3motion with Kendrick Coleman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:18:49

In this episode, @EMCcode (Part of EMC) developer advocate Kendrick Coleman (@KendrickColeman and www.kendrickcoleman.com) join me in a web conversation. EMCcode is a group within EMC that is involved with various open source activities both internal and external focused spanning Openstack to Pivotal Cloudfoundry along with existing EMC products as well as those of others including public and private cloud and object storage solutions. We get started by talking about springtime in Kentucky where Kendrick lives along with his new look that could allow him to dress up as @Captainobvious if needed, then exploring more about what EMCcode is about. From there we get into a discussion about cloud and object storage, buckets, containers, objects, docker and microservices, node.js as well as the need for a tool such as S3motion. S3motion is a tool available free (its open source) that I have been using myself for moving buckets and objects between different cloud and object storage solutions and services. Kendrick explains the motivation behind S3motion along with trends in and around objects as well as programming among related topic themes and how context matters. We close with Kendrick giving a great perspective of the one constant is change, something we will have to pick up on in a future discussion. Here are some additional links to learn more about Kendrick Coleman, EMCcode, S3motion along with cloud and object storage including Twitter: @emccode @kendrickcoleman Blog and webs: www.kendrickcoleman.com plus www.blog.emccode.com and www.emccode.github.io along with www.blog.emccode.com/2015/02/12/introducing-s3motion/ as well as www.objectstoragecenter.com ok, nuff said, for now...
