Summary: <p>Cataracts are an important cause of blindness and visual impairment in the United States, accounting for approximately 50% of visual impairment in adults over the age of 40. It is estimated that the number of individuals with cataracts will increase by 50% by the year 2020.<br> <br>This interview will review the various intraocular lenses that are available and their advantages and disadvantages to achieve optimal outcomes in the treatment of cataracts, as well as discuss the use of surgical and laser therapies to achieve optimal outcomes in the treatment of cataracts and the strategies to prevent post-surgery complications.</p>
