Mark Clements, Chicago Police Torture Victim Says No More Death Penalty

Summary: Tonight we are joined by Mark Clements who is a part of the organization No More Death Penalty. We will discuss several cases where people have been put to death because of mistakes or criminal misconduct in police crime labs and why the death penalty should be abolished. AP Mark Clements was tortured by Chicago Police when he was just 16 yrs old in 1981 in order to obtain a false confession. Mr. Clements was present earlier this year at the trial of former Chicago cop, Lt. Jon Burge who was convicted for lying about alleged torture in a lawsuit filed by former death row inmate Madison Hobley, who was sentenced to death for a 1987 fire that killed seven people, including his wife and son, and pardoned by Governor Ryan. Burge will be sentenced this year and faces a possible 45 years in prison. Read more.
