Summary: A regular sound and/or music healing practice is a powerful tool for many people already, much like yoga, so how can those unfamiliar with the field learn about it and integrate it into their daily lives?A regular sound and/or music healing practice is a powerful tool for many people already, much like yoga, so how can those unfamiliar with the field learn about it and integrate it into their daily lives? Jon Beerman graduated from the Sound, Voice and Music Healing Certificate Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California, and he has begun to explore the power of expression through musical improvisation and discussion. For his final project, he invited students of the program into his studio for discussion and musical improvisation over several months, and through these sessions discovered how some of them have integrated a sound/music healing practice into their daily lives, as well as creating some interesting improvisational musical pieces, which are featured throughout the show. The Sound Voice and Music Healing program at CIIS, run by Silvia Nakkash, explores a myriad of modalities taught by master teachers including: the Art of Improvisation, Tibetan Sound Healing and the 5 Seed Syllables, the Tomatis Method, Medicine Melodies, Yoga of the Voice, Chinese Mantras, Sound Science, Drumming and Overtone Singing, and many more. Students are introduced to these modalities over the nine month program and are expected to integrate the one that resonates best with them into a final project that summarizes their experience and showcases the integration of their chosen modality into their lives. Jon's project focuses on the art of improvisation and its healing qualities. He has found these musical improvisation sessions to be a powerful force for students, as well as himself, for expression and to help process emotions. It's also a lot of fun!
