#258 with Chadwick and Astara of the Secret Society Of The Sonic Six

Summary: I first met the Secret Society Of The Sonic Six around 2003 or 2004. They were doing something that was not common at the time around Los Angeles. Their sound was, and is, synth-driven music that recalls the likes of early Chris & Cosey, Ike Yard, and early Cabaret Voltaire, without ever really sounding like those bands. They describe themselves as “nite music” and I feel that's an apt description. The music is dark and textured, with lyrical content that is more on the noir end of the spectrum—people down on their luck, so deep they can't see that all is lost despite any fight or defiance put up. Secret Society is the sort of music you listen to driving around the desolate parts of your town late late at night, with your windows down and the summer heat hanging heavy. Like any band that I truly like, I have always been intrigued by what they listen to. So here you go. This is definitely off the beaten path, and hopefully you will enjoy it. For me, this is the kind of thing I'm always hoping to find. Punk kicked down the doors for me, and I have been looking behind every door ever since discovering new sounds to shape and mutate the world I live in. Chadwick and Astara came by the Razorcake HQ with a box of vinyl and these are the results. –Matt Average To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..."
