In this episode, we welcomed Andy Gunn from BBOWT to the podcast.  The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, are; - Should nature reserves be for people and wildlife or should they just be for wildlife? - The stereotype of environmentalists are hippies and people living unconventional lifestyles. Is this the reality? And how do we get more suits at the forefront? - How can we move on from the idea of everything being disposable? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, are: - Should we celebrate our environmental successes more and what are they? - Mass consumerism is a big driver of climate change, what are the practical steps we can all take to consume less?  The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Trio Watson from Clear Space for Me. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:59:11

In this episode we welcomed Trio Watson from Clear Space for Me. The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, are; - Awareness is a critical first step towards successful conservation of any species. Is this true for only the scientists and decision makers, or is it also relevant for the public as a whole? - Adapting is a key to success, so why in the west does it appear we don’t want to adapt to survive? - Since decluttering is essentially an opportunity to catch up on personal decision-making we haven't got around to, how can we practically apply permaculture principles to those everyday decisions? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Julie Macken Deputy Queen Bee of Neve's Bees. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:46:04

In this episode we welcomed Julie Macken Deputy Queen Bee of Neve's Bees. We had three big questions in this episode which lead to an interesting discussion, they were;  - Society seems more opinion and personality focused, and not necessarily based in fact. What are the pro’s and con’s of that for the environment? - Having family overseas in Finland, I have to fly to and from the country on at a least yearly basis, drastically increasing my carbon footprint. Are there effective ways of combating this other than just not flying? - It seems like everyday there’s a new threat to our planet - running out of water in 25 years, melting of the icecaps in 20 years, losing our pollinators increasingly, irrevocable rise in temperature in 12 years. David Attenborough’s Blue Planet seems to have made a monumental change in attitude towards plastic. What might be the initiative to impact on these other threats?” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Dr. Alexandra Morel. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:53:26

In this episode we welcomed Oxford University scientist, Dr Alexandra Moral. The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, are; - How would we be acting differently if we recognised nature as a separate/sovereign nation?" Not that we should necessarily, but I would be interested to explore how different or not society might be? - People are working behind the scenes on things like locking away carbon within algal blooms that sink and form rock, and also drilling into rock and storing it there within Limestone etc. Should we be focusing our efforts in these mitigation measures or the processes we as individuals are given to live and work by? Or both? - Is there such a creature as an urban animal? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Dr. Imma Oliveras. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:46:53

In this episode we welcomed Oxford University scientist Dr. Imma Oliveras. The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, are; - The more humans work together, collaborate, and judging by history, it could easily lead to being an even more dominant species, what steps can we take to avoid this?  - Are the arguments for or against global warming a distraction? Should we be focusing more on living in a better, ethical and sustainable way? Who should be charged with setting the targets, standards and policies we should be aiming to live by?  - What is the value of nature? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Elise Benjamin a Former Green Councillor, ex-Lord Mayor, and Campaigner. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:41:05

In this episode we welcomed former Green party councillor, ex-Lord Mayor, and campaigner Elise Benjamin. The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, were; - The original 1978 animated film of Richard Adams's Watership Down was seen as being too brutal for children to watch. With the 2018 version made for the BBC being a much more watered down version, should we really protect children this way or should children, as the original film intended, be made aware what impact we're having on the natural world around us by seeing it from the animal's point of viewer? - Should we be protecting the Green Belt from development? - Should we be suspicious when airports and oil companies take steps to be more environmentally sustainable, or is that just a green wash? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message

The People's Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast with guest Thalia Carr | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:44:19

In this episode we welcomed Thalia Carr as our guest. The three questions, which once again inspired an interesting debate, were;  - What are the challenges that people face who work professionally in the environmental/ sustainability sectors? - With all the evidence that climate change is the result of human activity, what will it take to convince those skeptics that we must act before it's too late? - Is any culture truly connected to its environment or is sustainability too rooted in necessity? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepeoplescountryside/message
