Colts Cast: Up or Down? Post draft positional look at the Colts defense | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2856

The Indianapolis Colts have new expectations after another offseason of re-tooling their roster under GM Chris Ballard. They've mades some offseason moves with a very popular trade, free agency, and have even added a few faces via the NFL Draft. With such a mass of the unit no older than 25, and less than a handful of seasoned veterans sprinkled into the bunch, there's still a lot we don't know about how this group will grasp the 2020 season. One thing is for sure, this group has a lot of potential, and a lot to prove. Today, in the second part of our positional breakdowns of the roster, we take a look at the Colts defense, it's offseason additions, and the overall growth that may be expected out of Matt Eberflus and his bunch this season. Matt Danely will go through each individual group, take a look through offseason moves, and describe what he envisions for them this year. Has the position improved, remained largely even, or have they declined -- and which factors make it so? While we have a large amount of unknowns heading into the season with individual pieces this year, there's a lot we do know, and that will make this defense one of the more interesting, and fun groups to watch in the conference in 2020.  Colts Cast: Up or Down? Post draft positional look at the Colts offense | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2643

The Indianapolis Colts have new expectations after another offseason of re-tooling their roster under GM Chris Ballard. They've made some offseason moves through free agency, and have added a group of rookies through the NFL Draft. Now, we need to assess what these changes have done to this roster for the upcoming 2020 NFL season. Today, in our first part of a two-part look, we take gander at the Colts' offense to see, by position, what the Colts have done in each area of the unit as a whole. Have they improved, stayed relatively level, or have they declined? Ballard and the Colts have added to the quarterback position in, both, free agency as well as the draft. They've added to the backfield in a couple different ways, have added another type of tight end, as well as what they perceive to be the missing piece to the receiver corps from the second round of the draft, and have high hopes for an addition to the offensive line. Overall, most likely feel that the offense is better than the 2019 version that was marred by key injuries, and very modest big-play ability to say the least. Is the 2020 version under Frank Reich actually better though? Matt Danely breaks down each position, gives them the "up" or "down" then delivers his all-encompassing opinion for the Colts scoring attack as a whole heading into the upcoming season.  Colts Cast: Colts' 2020 NFL Draft recap, UDFAs complement draft haul | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2694

The Indianapolis Colts added pieces to improve their explosiveness on Day's 1 and 2 in the 2020 NFL Draft, along with improving in the secondary. On Day 3, the Colts added what they hope is their future at the QB position in Jacob Eason, as well as some help along the interior of the offensive line, and some contributors on the defensive side of the ball. Overall, the Colts were very balanced in their approach to this year's draft, adding five picks offensively (4 of their first 5 selections), and another four picks to the defense. Chris Ballard moved up, he moved back, and in the end, navigated the draft much like we all expected him to. Today Matt Danely will go through each of the Colts' picks, discuss their fit with the team, how they can improve their respective positions, and what this draft might do for the immediate, and long-term future of the organization. Additionally, Matt will go through all of the UDFAs that the Colts have added to this point. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Colts Cast: Colts Draft reactions, recap of Rounds 1-3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4404

The Indianapolis Colts headed into the 2020 NFL Draft with no picks in the first round, and that remained true as they passed on trading into the first round as some suspected they may attempt to do. On Day 2, the Colts did make a trade, but it wasn't the path typical of GM Chris Ballard. At the end of the day, the Colts did indeed make three picks, grabbing Michael Pittman at No. 34 overall, they moved up to No. 41 from 44 overall to take Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor, and added Julian Blackmon (DB) with the No. 85 overall selection after trading back from No. 75 overall (with the Lions). Matt Danely is joined by the boys from Stampede Radio (Chris Blystone, Chris Shepherd, and Jim Campbell) to discuss their thoughts on how the first round played out, their reactions on the Colts picks on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, as well as some of what we all have witnessed with the 'virtual' aspect of the draft process thus far, including some interesting Roger Goodell takes. The Colts, for now, still hold four more picks for Day three (Rounds 4-7), and have some clear areas of need that the guys discuss as well, as the Colts draft haul rounds into place.  Colts Cast: Rivers-Colts connection parallels to another HOF worthy QB | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3201

With the recent acquisition of Philip Rivers to the Indianapolis Colts, there are still some questions that can, and will only be answered by what we see on the field. We can look back on Rivers' history to tell us he's a Hall of Fame worthy quarterback when looking at the totality of his career, or we can pick and choose a few seasons, look at his stats and argue otherwise. Additionally, the past season (23 TDs, 20 INTs) may be what some will hang on to and suggest that it's the beginning of the end for the former Chargers' passer. We can do this all off-season long, and the arguments could go back and forth, and nobody will actually be wrong. Today, however, Matt Danely wants to talk about a possible parallel that Rivers could hold to another Hall of Fame quarterback that Colts' fans know very well. He went to another team after he was thought to be on his last leg, he took a young, underwhelming roster to the next level. And, it wasn't just off of his arm talent in which he was able to achieve that. Matt talks the latest Colts news in free agency, releases, and re-signings, this intriguing parallel of top tier quarterbacks of our time, and speaks with Derek Togerson of NBC San Diego to discuss what Philip Rivers brings to this Colts roster that is dying to surge defensively, but deserves a top-notch all-time quarterback to get this offense to explode.
