Presenting agencies included Gwinnett police and fire, Hall County fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Sherrif’s Office, Georgia State Patrol and Army Corps of Engineers.Donald Strother with Gwinnett County fire spoke first about the importance of learning CPR and administering it promptly. He said when someone is able to promptly administer CPR, it drastically improves the chances survival of someone in cardiac arrest. Come the new school year, cameras will be helping police ticket speeders.The city of Duluth has partnered with the company RedSpeed to install speed cameras on roads near Duluth Middle School, Coleman Middle School, Mason Elementary School and Chattahoochee Elementary School. Known as the 287(g) program, it deputizes state and local officials with certain powers of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities. Sheriff Butch Conway has hailed the program as a way to reduce and prevent crime. But opponents have said the program leads to racial profiling by law enforcement and fear of police in immigrant communities.

www.GoodMorningGwinnett.com #Podcast Two years after being publicly reprimanded in the wake of a Facebook post calling Congressman John Lewis a “racist pig,” Gwinnett County Commissioner Tommy Hunter has filed a new federal lawsuit asking for $5 million in damages.The suit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Atlanta claims that the punishment handed down by Hunter’s commission colleagues in June 2017 violated his First Amendment right to free speech. In addition to the monetary demands, it asks that the reprimand — which was posted at the Gwinnett County courthouse, on the county website and in the county’s legal organ — be rescinded.“Chilling of 1st Amendment political speech by government officials to negate criticism of other elected government officials … amounts to an overbroad ‘political correctness’ gag order,” Hunter’s attorney, Dwight Thomas, wrote in the suit.
