David and J.Y. speak about why it's difficult to write a compelling personal statement and how to do it well. They also cover diversity statements, recommendation letters, and resumes. David is a graduate of Yale and the Iowa Writer's Workshop. His nonfiction has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Atlantic online. His fiction has won two national contests, received notable mention in The Best American Short Stories 2014, and been anthologized by Autumn House Press. He taught English and writing at the University of Iowa, Southern New Hampshire University, and Phillips Academy Andover. Josh studied for the LSAT for over two years and took the LSAT four times with scores of 163, 162, 170, and finally 176. Josh talks about just how much work it took to improve his score and the different strategies he employed, including filming yourself taking live sections and reviewing the footage to find inefficiencies in approach.
