Patriots win SB53 thanks to outgoing defensive coach Brian Flores | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:26:09

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson and Terez Paylor report in from Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, where they've commandeered a suite to discuss the New England Patriots' win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. Their biggest takeaway: the rival defensive masterpieces put on by Wade Phillips and Brian Flores. Brian Flores' star-making game plan and quick ascension in the NFL coaching ranks brings up an interesting question to chew on when the league goes on hiatus: while the fad of the offseason was to recruit the next young offensive wunderkind, did the Dolphins secretly make the best hire in securing the next young defensive genius? Charles and Terez process how Flores, along with Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels, reduced the league's 2nd best offense to dust, if Brady is better than Michael Jordan and what is going on with Todd Gurley on their final Sunday night freestyle of the 2018 season. Super Bowl LIII is less than a week away and there is no shortage of interesting storylines to get us to the big game on Sunday. Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson and Terez Paylor start the show giving their final thoughts on the no-call that prevented the Saints from reaching the Super Bowl, then have a discussion about the city of Los Angeles, the Rams' place in it and whether we could see the Chargers moving at some point in the future (5:20). They turn their attention to the Super Bowl and discuss Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and whether the 2015 AFC championship is the blueprint for beating Tom Brady in an important playoff game and how that would look against a 2018 Patriots team that has leaned heavily into a power running offense (15:15). They also talk about the possibility that this may be Brady's final game and what would need to happen for him to retire this offseason (19:50). They wrap up their Super Bowl thoughts with excitement over what epic trash talk Rams cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib might bring to Media Night (27:15).  This Is How It Happened: Thomas Morstead and the Saints' onside kick in Super Bowl XLIV | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:23

Arguably the two most important plays in the history of the New Orleans Saints came on special teams. On September 25, 2006, safety Steve Gleason blocked an Atlanta Falcons punt, producing the Saints' first touchdown in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. It was the fulfillment of a promise that the Saints would return to New Orleans after the hurricane decimated the city and forced the team to play in San Antonio and Baton Rouge the year prior– but it wasn't a Super Bowl. Three and a half years later, down 10-6 at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts, a decision was made in the Saints' locker room that would shock the world, change the momentum of the game and lead to the Saints' first Super Bowl victory ever: Sean Payton ordered punter Thomas Morstead to start the second half with a surprise onside kick. Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson and Dan Wetzel sit down with Morstead almost nine years after that day to discuss how it happened: what transpired over halftime in that locker room that led to that risky decision and what was it like being one of the only people in the world who knew what was about to transpire. Be sure to visit Yahoo Sports later in the week for videos and articles about Morstead's famous kick as we provide tons of Super Bowl content heading into Super Bowl XLIII.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Also on the show: • Should the overtime rules be changed again? (3:45) • Laser-gate, the Patriots' "underdog" status and early Rams-Patriots thoughts (9:15) • Previewing the Senior Bowl and which prospects to look for in the 2019 NFL draft (13:20) Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL Follow Charles @CharlesRobinson Follow Terez @TerezPaylor  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Conference Championship Sunday Night Freestyle: The Rams and Patriots advance on a controversial Sunday | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:31:35

The 2018 season's conference championship Sunday will be remembered by two simple numbers: 1 and 2.  2 overtime periods and 1 blown pass interference call. The stage is set for a Rams/Patriots Super Bowl in Atlanta on February 3rd, but the Chiefs and Saints are hogging the headlines on January 21st. While the Saints are owed a major apology by the league for the referees' missed penalty in the final minutes of regulation, the Chiefs loss is leading many to question the OT rules again as they didn't get a chance to touch the ball in the extra period. Yahoo Sports' Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson react to a controversial Sunday after being in-person for the AFC and NFC championship games, respectively. First, Charles Robinson reports in from New Orleans, where the Saints were shocked at home against Sean McVay, Jared Goff and the Rams. Later, Terez covers the reaction from Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs' postseason demons caught up with them (17:00).  Kyler Murray declares, Flores and Taylor the latest head coaching candidates and AFC/NFC championship previews | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:06

On the eve of Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff possibly ascending to their first Super Bowls, young Oklahoma quarterback phenom Kyler Murray declared for the NFL draft. Goff and Mahomes are undoubtedly two of the premiere young talents at quarterback in the league and the latter is expected to be named NFL MVP in just a few weeks. After opening the show remarking on Adam Gase's press conference laying its early stake to 2019 meme-of-the-year, Yahoo Sports' Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson discuss Murray's decision to choose football over baseball, his much-debated height and where he could go in the 2019 draft (2:00). Next, Terez and Charles give a brief history of New England Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and his fit as the presumed next head coach of the Miami Dolphins (10:20). They move to the other remaining head coaching vacancy and give their thoughts on Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor fitting the bill with the Cincinnati Bengals (16:20). Moving to the AFC and NFC championship games, Terez and Charles wrap up previewing Rams/Saints (19:10), Patriots/Chiefs (25:00) and end the show with their final game predictions (29:45).
