This year, there are more carrier options if you live in the Ozarks. And despite no penalty, area counties are seeing an increase in the number of people signing up. About 20 million people will be signing up for health coverage through the ACA nationwide. The numbers in the Ozarks are going up, too. In Greene County, 12,685 people have enrolled so far. Of those, 3,594 are new enrollees. Christian County has about 4,100 people enrolled. And Taney County, about 3,000. Those numbers include new enrollees.

"The leading cause of death for people under 50 is opioid [overdoses]. Our goal is to try and get as many people doing non-drug, non-invasive type of treatments so we can decrease those numbers," Dr. Gary Meek. "One of every 4 individuals that are prescribed an opioid end up struggling with addiction in the future," he said. "You gotta be doing everything you can to try to stop people who have never been on an opioid from getting on an opioid."
