How does Pam go about helping moms initiate breastfeeding? She really likes the baby to come right onto the moms chest for skin to skin. She likes to stay hands off initially and just allow the mom and baby to be together. She does offer some verbal support as the mom relaxes and enjoys her baby and offer the breast. She likes to help moms be relaxed. Pam wants to see the babies breastfeeding within the first 2-4 hours after birth.
Today I wanted to share a story of a mom that I worked with recently. She had a traumatic birth and did not breastfeed her baby immediately. She was told that he could not wait, needed to have some nourishment as they were concerned about his blood sugar levels. She had no problem agreeing to give him formula. Here is where I am going to pick up her story and I think it is an important one and you will find out why as we go along.
