Ken is replaced by The Perfect Date, Hannah | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:33:32

Ken leaves us for an episode to go explore the concept of Old Town Roads in Texas. Kendra gets a replacement, Hannah, who joined us to talk Pen15 a few weeks back.  This week we talk about The Perfect Date (not just the concept, but the movie.) Kendra and Hannah discuss the latest Noah Centineo joint, The Perfect Date. This Netflix Original movie has plenty to make fun and we really put in the hardwork to get it done.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Matt Walsh was the dad in the Perfect Date. He was also in an episode of Hot in Cleveland with Jane Leeves and so was Peri Gilpin. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kendraken/support

We split a Mystic Pizza pie with Peri | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:33:13

Ken and Kendra thank Peri Gilpin for listening (Thank you, Peri). They also create a table of contents for the first time ever. Quick description of the Game of Thrones episode cause Ken liked it. Kendra talks and convinces the world to watch Ramy (successfully). Then Ken and Kendra talk about the topic of the hour, Mystic Pizza starring Annabeth Gish (Ken is sorry for calling her Annabelle), Julia Roberts and Lili Taylor. We really go into the 80s plot.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Lili Taylor was in The Cold Lands, which was directed by Tom Gilroy, who also directed Spring Forward (1999) with Peri Gilpin! That’s two degrees! We plan on watching Spring Forward next week.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.  Does this make Jon Snow our uncle? | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:30:02

Ken and Kendra unwillingly dive into the first episode of season eight of Game of Thrones. They are not your usual recappers so expect confusion, name mix-ups, and generally untrue facts. Kendra makes sure to mention red headed beard man AKA viking dude. Kendra also tries to understand the difference between the Brans, Bronns, and where Brawny man fits in with his paper towels. (The red wedding sure could have used them.) And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Peter Dinklage is on Game of Thrones playing Tyrion Lannister. Peter Dinklage was in the Station Agent with Patricia Clarkson! Patricia Clarkson was in Frasier. Done. She will also be in a movie playing Edna St Vincent Millay, if Kendra has the ability to cast people in her mind for roles that don't yet exist.  Daniel Sharman teaches us the meaning of capitalism in Medici | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:37:49

Kendra tells Ken the beautiful story of Medici, the new Netflix series that tells the story of the Medici family. Ken politely listens as he really gets a history lesson told by a dope who watched a show over a week ago. The show has two seasons. The first following Richard Madden who is Cosimo Medici, who is not a bodyguard, but a banker. The second season is how we got into this show because Daniel Sharman, our fave from Teen Wolf, is Lorenzo Medici. Lorenzo Medici was a boss and his season is truly great and I highly recommend.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Sean Bean was in Medici season 2 playing Señor Pazzi. Sean Bean was in the Big Empty with Kelsey Grammar! So that’s a very simple two degrees.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.  Ken doesn't have a dog to give mushrooms to and that's a good thing | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:39:11

Kendra and Ken talk about Shrill, the Hulu Original starring Aidy Bryant based on Lindy West's book by the same title. Ken and Kendra discuss the shows similarities with the book. We review the first episode shift that allows her to start asking for what she wants,  the reaction by her boss and the public regarding her writing, and the classic story of hurting your friends. At the start of the show, Ken and Kendra discuss the episode that will never be and Kendra's way of saying NSYNC, solely due to lack of knowledge. And our connection to Peri Gilpin is just one beautiful degree. Julia Sweeney plays Aidy Bryant's mom in Shrill and also played Peri Gilpin's friend in a 2003 episode of Frasier! Call us and leave a voicemail we might play on the show with 410-914-7374.  Ken FINALLY joins the Pen15 club | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:36:39

Ken and Kendra discuss Hulu’s Pen15 with a call in from our number one fan from the Boston branch, Hannah Gagnon. We give absolutely zero intro information on Pen15, but it’s a show set deeply in the early 2000s telling the story of two friends who are in middle school. The whole team deeply relates to the show and are big fans of what Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine have made! AIM what a messy place for predators and friends. We also relive our middle school best friendships and really explore how the show mirrors life so closely that it's sometimes hard to watch. We once again didn’t do a connection to Peri Gilpin, mostly because the show is mostly cast with 12 year olds. But Richard Kern is in Pen15 and we would love for you to call in and find us the connection between Peri and him.  Call us and leave a voicemail we might play on the show with 410-914-7374.  Celebrating one year: Queer Eye, Jude Law, we schmooze | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:30:13

This week Kendra and Ken celebrate their one year podcastaversary! They take calls from their favorite listeners (you can join them by leaving questions or comments on our voicemail 410-914-7374.) Also up for discussion: Ken’s hatred for Rami Malek. Kendra’s belief that Jude Law already played a villain in a Marvel movie, but really she just has watched a lot of movies on planes that feel superhero-esque. Kendra informs the world that she is no longer sorry for anything after watching the latest season of Queer Eye. And our connection to Peri Gilpin. It’s us and our forever love for her! Thank you, Peri! Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you. And if you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support!  Ken and Kendra Marvel at Captain Marvel | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:36:29

This week we preview our one year podcastaversary! Which means we have added a new feature in celebration. You can now call in to our podcast with the phone number (410) 914-7374. Leave us a voicemail for our one year anniversary or anytime in general to possibly hear your thoughts on an episode.  We dive deep into the latest in the Marvel universe, Captain Marvel! We discuss Brie Larson and the whole movie. Spoilers start around the 17 mark. Jude Law, Ken has seen him IRL. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that we forgot to mention because we were distracted by our new phone number. Brie Larson is the star of Captain Marvel. She was also in The Glass Castle, which is not I Capture the Castle (like I wish it was) with Woody Harrelson. Woody Harrelson we have done a million times and was in an episode of Frasier.  Kendra teaches a Deadly Class about Umbrella Academy | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:33:26

This week we are joined by our friend Tim, who we forced to say nothing. Thanks for making our theme song, Tim. Ken also has some final thoughts on Netflix’s Sex Education despite us talking about it two weeks ago. Then we get into our major topic of the day. Superhero academy shows.  Kendra compares Netflix’s Umbrella Academy (starring Ellen Page) with SyFy’s Deadly Class (starring Lana Condor). Kendra is a much bigger fan of Deadly Class and has a lot of reasons why. Ken politely follows along. More importantly the set of Umbrella Academy feels like a pretty simple mansion. Eh. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that took just seconds. French Stewart plays a psychopath teacher at the murder academy. French Stewart was also in 3rd Rock from the Sun with John Lithgow. John Lithgow is a voice cameo on the 1995 episode of Frasier, "Someone to Watch Over Me."  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.  We talk the Oscars: Ken you believe it? | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:39:40

This week Ken and Kendra cover the Oscars while celebrating their 50th episode. They talk their favorite moments (Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, Spike Lee winning Best Screenplay, Olivia Coleman being very charming, Chris Evans) and our least favorite moments (not going to get into it in the description, listen to the ep). And our connection to Peri Gilpin is that she covered the whole event!  Kendra wants to retitle Sex Education, Ken asks “what’s sex” | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:35:47

This week Ken and Kendra discuss the Netflix show Sex Education. The two discuss the show as a whole, our opinions on the opening scene and the themes of friend betrayal in teen movies and teendom. If you want to skip our complete deep dive into the 5th episode skip 15:20 to 32:00. Sex Education features the acting talents of Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson. Kendra’s favorite character is Eric, played by Ncuti Gatwa. He is the best and his storyline is very easy to cry with.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin that we have done before is just one beautiful degree. Gillian Anderson (not British) was in an episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin called Dr. Nora (Dr. Nora was played by Christine Buranski!). We are very proud of this one degree and shall hang it on the wall.  Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.  The Mummy (2017) is not Kendra's Mummy | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:39:08

This week Ken and Kendra talk The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy (2017). Kendra talks about how Brendan Fraser version is the best and Tom Cruise is lacking. Ken says Tom Cruise is the best. (Cue Kendra’s sigh.) We give quick tips for what to do if you run into a sandstorm that has a mummy’s face in it. The most famous Nick (Jake Johnson) is in The Mummy (2017). Nick Miller then has to talk to Tom Cruise’s character who’s name is Nick Morton. It’s a nightmare. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that took us an eternity to figure out, but we cut all that out. Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis were both in The Mummy (2017) and Tag (2018) with Hannibal Burress. Hannibal Buress was in Broad City which Peri Gilpin was also in playing Abbi’s mom.  The balloons in Killing Eve still have Kendra floating on air | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:34:18

This week Ken and Kendra talk British shows with the series Killing Eve, a quick plug for Sex Education on Netflix, and an even quicker love note for Big Dreams, Small Spaces, a British garden show with host Monty Don. Before we get into all that, Ken and Kendra dive into their dreams and goals for Zac Efron’s career. We want him to only play people in high school or college. Once he gets too old to play a college student we will allow him to do the Rodney Dangerfield back to school thing. This is just a lot saying we don’t want to see “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”. In our conversations about Killing Eve (BBC America, Hulu) we discuss the performances of Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, while also discussing our general reverence for Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Kendra’s favorite part of the whole show Villanelle’s apartment and her absolutely perfect taste in balloons. That doesn’t mean Kendra didn’t like the show it means Kendra truly LOVED the fancy spherical balloons.  Next up, Kendra recommends the crowd and Ken watch Sex Education (Netflix). Ken says he will but can’t be trusted. And in conclusion we discuss a recommendation from current Britain resident, Carrie. She told Kendra about the show Big Dreams, Small Spaces (Netflix) which is in keeping with the theory that titling shows isn’t for everyone. It features the apparently super famous Monty Don who helps people make beautiful gardens in their small yards. Everyone is in love with him and the whole thing is both charming and like watching an archeological study on fame.  Despite mentioning that we connect a show with Peri Gilpin every episode we forgot to find two degrees of connection this episode, but we have them. Sandra Oh from Killing Eve was in the movie Sideways with Virginia Madsen. Virginia Madsen was in an episode of Frasier titled “When a Man Loves Two Women” in which Frasier loves two women. To this Ken and Kendra both say, “ugh and gross.” Remember to follow us on Instagram and DM us to get a free button mailed to you.  Kendra forces Ken to lip sync and shimmy in honor of Lizzie McGuire | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:37:34

Ken and Kendra quickly review the Oscar nominees and say, “ehhh, not for me, but good for Glenn Close.” Ken talks about how he was at the same coordinates as Peri Gilpin and his biggest fear was having to explain to Peri Gilpin his own degree of connection to her.  This week Ken and Kendra watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) which according to Kendra was an absolute hit and according to Ken he would have preferred being hit. We have a real fun time going through the movies artfully made plot holes and exaggerations. We ask many unanswerable questions like why was Paulo hanging out at the Trevi fountain? Why did Lizzie bail on Gordo for a full hour and a half? Why does Lizzie McGuire have a famous Italian doppelgänger who has a terrible accent? And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Lizzie McGuire Movie leading lady, Hilary Duff was in A Cinderella Story with Jennifer Coolidge. Jennifer Coolidge was in a season 8 episode of Frasier entitled “Forgotten But Not Gone”. That’s two degrees everyone. If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! The first 25 Listener Supporters will get a t-shirt.  We watch Eighth Grade and choose not to relive our eighth grades | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:32:06

The buttons are in and look very cool! Remember if you didn’t DM us on Instagram (@degreesofperi) to get a button you still can. Kendra tells the quick and sad story about how she went to Bumblebee to hear Dylan O’Brien and was severely disappointed. Ken revels in her misfortune.  This week Ken and Kendra watched Eighth Grade which has Kendra questioning how we spell eighth. We talk about how awkward eighth grade is and how well Bo Burnham captures the people who fill your adolescence. Fun fact Ken went to the same high school as Bo Burnham. And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Bumblebee star who isn’t Dylan O’Brien is Hailee Steinfeld who was in Edge of Seventeen with Woody Harrelson, who was a KEY character in Cheers and was in the episode of Frasier entitled, “The Show Where Woody Shows Up” If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support!
