The Widget: Games, Tech, Whatever

A lot has happened since the exciting events of last week's episode. Thankfully though, we're quick to recover so that we may continue to bring you the fantastic world of technology and games as only we can. After a much needed vacation, The Widget crew returns to celebrate their official (by the calandar), one year anniversary. It's a nice hanging-out atmosphere this week, with talk about various stuff that's been going on in the week since our last show. But don't worry, there's plenty of ripping on each other to be had, not to mention, plenty of viewer mail has been stacking up the last couple weeks. Hey guys, we're back again for another episode, well most of us anyway. This weeks teaser footage of the Transformers live action movie has prompted Tim to pay a special visit to Michael Bay in an effort to set a few facts straight. Fear not though, for the show goes on with Ryan and Jason joined by Hawkes from GA:Live and loyal listener Jeff Standley. This week we talk Transformers heresy, more bad news for Sony, and a ton of whatever. Add in viewermail, movie time, and Numbers with Ryan and you have a pretty meaty last episode before the anniversery show. Enjoy.

Whew, that was a close one! Hi people, once again we bring you the creamy goodness that is The Widget. This week we give our review of the recently released Prey PC demo from our friends over at 3D Realms (sorry XBox folk), and so far... well, you have to listen. The upgrade bug is starting to get to Tim again, can he resist the temptation of the recent AMD price drops?!? We dare to ask the question; is BluRay really "all that"? Ryan gives us his review of his latest movie assignments, Bloodsport and Alien Quadrilogy. And we take a few pieces of mail regarding last weeks "too hot to handle" conversation. Lots of fun this week gang...

Back to a nice 2 hour format this week everyone, and this week we are bringing the pain with Jym. Topics this week include Sony's nutty comments about the PS3, Bill Gates announces his retirement, we talk about the Unreal series for a bit, Ryan gives us his review of Tombstone and gets his next xenophobic assignment, AMD is secretly sweating Core 2 and literally tons more topics. Well gang, we're back once again to bring you the latest happenings in the tech industry with our own personal flavor.... well, at least that's the plan. See, this week was almost completely devoid of anything good to talk about. Oh sure, somebody crammed a Core 2 in the Mac Mini, and Net Neutrality took a bit of a blow, but other than that there wasn't much. So what did we talk about? Random goodness of course! Ryan gives his report on the movies he was assigned to watch, we ramble a bit about stuff, and Jason announces a new contest that some of you may be VERY interested in... Speculation. It is what drives the tech news industry most of the time. This week we talk about a lot of things that may or may not happen. Take for example the rumor that AMD may be in the works of purchasing ATI. Could it happen? Perhaps. Should it happen? That's what we want to know. Sony says that the PS3 is going to render PCs obsolete. Is that even feasible, or is Sony just losing their mind? We also offer up our review of Half-Life 2 Episode 1, and let you know if it was worth the wait. But the big one this week was that we were wondering about the future of XBox Live Arcade. We know Street Fighter 2 is coming, but what else? Can we expect the service to just die off after such a stellar start? Our curiosity got the best of us, so we decided to make a phone call to Ross Erickson, the portfolio manager for XBox Live Arcade at Microsoft to find out...

This week we talk about the new AMD socket AM2 and if it's worth it, the PS3 used games rumor, and the debut of The Widget Virtual PC with two base systems that give you the best bang for your buck.
