NEW ZEALAND YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARD! It's been nothing but Churs this morning at Medallica HQ because the Kiwis were meeeaann on the mountain this morning, winning their first Winter Olympic medals in 26 years. We are all over them like a rash today but also made time to tee up Medalling With the most famous rig in the world, Pita Taufatofua. We also walk you through Seoul's party precinct, Hongdae, Korean karaoke and our trolling of Olympics groups on social media.
The train ride from hell has made this episode half cast, half anger management therapy. We calmly talk about the Nigerian Women's bobsled team, minnow medals and the best damn underdog of these Olympic Games. We then let the hate run free as we describe how Karma kicked us in the dicks in our journey to the Sliding Centre and back. Listen to this while we meditate and try not to kill each other or anybody else.
Lack of sleep has ravaged our minds and bodies, leading to the psychedelic masterpiece that is Episode 12. We get geed for the Nigerian Women's bobsled tonight and our world-first interview. Giving us a cheeky bit of insight into the sled is Aussie bobsled person for 2022 and all round legend Ash Werner, who also gets Medalled With. Rig's Tinder profile goes live in order to add another feather in the "legitimate country" cap for Riggustan and we get the cheapest single malt whiskey ever.
It's Monday in Korea which means most things are closed for no discernible reason. That's not the case with this episode of Medallica though. NZ go hard in the paint in the minnow medals and also have a legitimate medal shot in the Team Pursuit Speed Skating event, starring Peter Michael Michaels. Our desire for Riggustani legitimacy sees Rig become a curler on Tinder based on sage advice from Steven Bradbury and we talk dried pressed squid, our hotel maids who hate us and the dumbest doping scandal you've ever heard
First episode back after Hoeffmania drinks and we are hungover as balls. Doesn't stop us from bringing the heat in the form of updates on our athletes, and a very special "Medalling With" segment starring the original Miracle on Ice, Steven Bradbury. We also talk through the Korean drinking games that have taken years off our lives and perennial Winter Olympic battlers Argentina.
Strap your bits in because today's cast is a doozy. We cover Jarryd Hughes as he flies under the radar to claim silver, to the dismay of Aussie papers who didn't pick it. Minnow Mania finally becomes a reality as Martins Dukurs (LAT) attempts to get his shit together and Pita Taufatofua (TGA) tries not to hit a tree in the Cross Country 15km (his words). Our cultural journey also continues, with Korea offering up zombie apocalypse 7-11s, luxury ride sharing and a language we just cannot even come close to mastering the basics of. Get your listening gear around it!
Episode 8, the Ocho, is available now for your listening pleasure. We finally get on the blower with 6 time Olympian/Luge Lord Shiva Keshavan to ask him the dumbest questions you've ever heard. We get super pissed at Martins Dukurs and Channel 7 for unrelated reasons and deep dive into Latvia's obsession with silver medals and not much else. It's a bumper edition today so treat your ear mouths to a gourmet meal.
Our full interview with Kim Jong Un impersonator and Aussie satirist Howard, who was forcibly removed after an interaction with the North Korean cheersquad at the Pyeongchang Olympics.
Today's episode is brought to you by zero sleep and a hundred per cent weird Korean caffeine drink. Thanks to this liquid horse tranquilizer/kidney destroyer, we've served up a cast full of Shaun White disses, Minnow Medal excitement, and justice in the first ever People's Games. It's willing and able so get your latest fix of Medallica now
Things are picking up in Pyeongchang as our major minnows are gearing up for their time on the world stage. We're keeping you updated on glistening cross country skier Pita Taufatofua, and the Latvian who's become Russia's Public Enemy No. 1, Martins Dukurs. We also have a special interview with the Fastest Mullet on Ice, Peter Michael, that'll make you want to buy him the first round of beers, quickly followed by all the rounds. We investigate a bizarre cat café in Korea Advisors, find another willing ambassador for Riggustan and deep dive into Romania's disappointing Winter Olympic performance in Donut Spotlight. It's all happening over here and the best way to keep on top of it is to eat this up with your ear mouths!
Episode 5 coming at ya. We've been up since 4am and running on the smell of an oily rag. As we barely keep things together, we recap our athletes including Shiva Keshavan, and show mad props to the New Zealand contingent. Riggustan starts to take the Games and Twitter by storm, and in Korea Advisors, we somehow visit a fish cake only restaurant, stand up on a two hour train and review the garbage food on offer in Pyeongchang. Listen now and laugh at our suffering.
Our feature minnows start lining up for their events in this episode, with Shiva Keshavan halfway through his 6th and final Olympic luge program. We lock in an exciting interview with Kiwi mullet-wearing enigma Peter Michael and receive a response from the Pita Taufatofua, the oiled one himself. Riggustan continues to confuse and arouse everyone foolish enough to engage and Korea Advisors shines a light on our beef with Korail and our own lack of logistical foresight. Turn it up and get the latest from our mission/elaborate troll.
It's Day 1 of competition here in Korea but we need to talk about the Opening Ceremony. Wow. And not 'wow' like 'what a spectacle'. More like 'wow, this thing is horrible. There's a dance about Korean IT'. We go through the uniforms, the speeches, and overacting children in our dissection. We then unleash our new segment Korea Advisors, about our experiences in this bizarre country. We round things out with Donut Spotlight, which focuses on a country denied gold due to corruption. Katch up on all things Korea Winter Olympics now with Episode 3.
We've landed in the right Korea and have foregone sleep to bring you Episode 2 of Medallica: Minnows Vs The World: Kul-de-sac to Korea from our hotel room. The Opening Ceremony is stupidly close and a few people are being left off the guest list. We are also dangerously close to locking down an interview with one of our feature athletes. A brand new segment enters the fold as we say goodbye to a fan favourite (stop being so efficient, Korea). Get your listening gear around it.
WE'RE BACK! As the 2018 Winter Olympics knocks on the world's proverbial door, we are pumped to be bringing you another installment of all things underdog. Unlike Rio where we observed from afar, this time we're on the ground in Korea, reporting nothing but eyewitness 24k magic. In Ep 1 we cover off the athletes we'll be following at these Olympics, as well as teasers for some of our segments this time around. As always, the perfect bite-sized sub-30 minute Ep size to squeeze into your commute, coffee run or end of work procrastination fest.
