The greatest play in football is the pass. Not the Power. Not the Inside Zone. Not the Option. It's the freaking PASS. So it was a blast talking to coach Zach Turner about the Five-Wide Run and Shoot Offense. I mean, who wouldn't want to play in that style of offense? You get to adjust your routes on the fly, get to catch balls all practice, and get to frustrate defensive coordinators because they don't know how you stop the MOST DOMINATE OFFENSE IN FOOTBALL!
Look, we've all been there. We set up are practice schedule. We plan for every single period. And we find out that we haven't covered half of what we needed to cover. So that puts us in the hole for tomorrow.
Just like life - football finds a way. Especially in Texas. That's what I've learned in this episode of Talking Football with Coach McKie. Why? Because I learned how there is a style of football that uses only six football players. Don't believe me? Then you need to listen to this interview with Coach Travis Robinson.
Spring practice is coming up. Do you have your install schedule ready? No? Then you need this podcast episode. Why? Because today we are talking about how to install your entire offense in three days.
Which Inside Zone philosophy do you have - Track Blocking or Double Team? Do you want to install package plays but don't have any idea how to do it? What to play fast but don't know which way to do it? Well, that's what we talk about in today's episode of Talking Football with Coach McKie.
We all love the Spread Offense here. So we join Twitter to connect with other coaches, and who is the first person you follow? The SpreadOffense handle. Why wouldn't you? That user posts amazing cut ups of Spread Offense - Passing Cuts Ups, Play Action Cut Ups, Quarterback Run Cut Ups. You name the cut ups and that handle has posted them.
Many coaches hate the 3-4 defense. They hate how the defense can match up evenly with the Spread. They hate how the 3-4 can disguise their blitzes - seeming to bring guys from all over the field. They hate how the slanting of the defensive line throws off their blocking schemes and messes with their offensive linemens' heads.
Do you have a good running back, but don't know how to give him the ball on screens? Want to know how to create a signal, yet don't know what to look like a gang member throwing up signs? Do you run the Spread Offense with a H-Back, but want some ideas for RPOs?Then you are in luck. Today's Talking Football with Coach McKie covers all of those questions in the 12th edition of the Coaching Mailbag.
I love the Run and Shoot offense. In high school, I would tell my friends I was grounded and couldn't go to parties because I wanted to stay home and watch June Jones' Hawaii team sling the ball around. When Google took off - yeah I'm old - I found the old John Jenkins '84 Gamblers QB manual and read every single page.
I'm sick of coaches bad-mouthing the Spread Offense. Saying things like: "I don't have a quarterback that can throw the ball" or "The Spread lacks a downhill run game" or "Sometimes you have to smack the other team in the mouth and Spread teams can't do that" Bullshit!
Do you have a fantastic wide receiver but don't know how to move him around simply? Do you play 3-3 Stack teams that play cover 0 or 1, and are having a difficult time coming up with ways to attack them? Do you want to be able to have a two-back package in case the weather is bad?
We don't always talk to coaches that run the Spread Offense. Sometimes we get down and dirty with the old school coaches. You know the type. The coaches who love to come out under center, unbalanced, 'run it down your throat' kind of coaches who love to run the option.
What's the first passing concept that comes into your mind when you hear Air Raid Offense? If it isn't the Air Raid Mesh concept then you aren't a true Air Raider. The Mesh concept is the most famous Air Raid Concept in the offense. It's also one of the most misunderstood. Don't worry. I'm here to help you understand the concept. How? By going over ways to practice the Air Raid Mesh Concept.
Do you like to play the 'What-If' game to stay sharp as a play caller? Are you having a difficult time coming up with play names and signals? Do you want to get better at structuring practice to get the most out of your time?
Do you watch coaching videos on YouTube? Do you love going up-tempo and no-huddle? Do you love learning about RPOs and how to practice them? Or do you love learning about Split Field Coverage and Special Teams? Because it doesn't matter what you love to watch, I know you've watched Coach Mac talk about it. Coach Mac is the reason why I got into the online space. His YouTube channel is informative, to the point, and packed full of knowledge.
