Our systems are built on trust. We trust our banks to hold our money, our schools to teach our children, and our government to protect our identity. We do this because we have to. How else would our world work if we didn’t have to trust other parties?

Today’s problems are rooted in centralization. From governing bodies to education boards, most of our society’s battery power is generated in centralized teams. Sure we elect officials through a democratic process to stand in these circles, but once elected, the procedure that follows is highly susceptible to corruption.

Blockchain technology will help us do more than make money. By decentralizing the decision-making power, transparent procedures and processes can be implemented across every industry. Cryptocurrency is just the function that incentivizes people to partake in the blockchain. But it should not be mistaken as the focus.

2017 was a year filled with Bitcoin headlines. We learned it could go up 200% in a month, and then drop $5,000 in a day. We learned which of our friends were skeptics and which seized opportunity in front of them. We learned a lot in 2017.

With cryptocurrency, the education can never stop. That’s because the technology is constantly evolving. Whether it’s whitepapers, Reddit forums, or expert opinions, new information constantly needs to be read, digested, and synthesized.   This is how the smart investor separates himself from the pack. While others let one opinion piece dictate an entire portfolio, you are the investor hearing all voices before making any decisions.

Cryptocurrency and stock are two completely different things. Yet their trading data charts look almost identical. For the novice trader, either one will be daunting to decipher. But for the novice crypto trader, he/she must seek out expert advice before diving in.

Trading gets messy when it gets emotional. After a big Bitcoin win, the surges of adrenaline can can send you into mega-confidence. This is when you are most vulnerable; as a trader riding off emotion instead of fact. It is our job to keep a level head by continuing to do the research and education to stay one step ahead of the markets.

Is Bitcoin crashing right now? For those of us watching the charts this holiday season, we noticed Bitcoin take a dip this past weekend. The crypto skeptics were smiling and saying I told you so. But quickly Bitcoin rebounded and now stands back near the $16,000 mark. And the critics are back to silence.

The crypto trader is unlike any other type of trader. That’s because the markets never close. There are no off-hours with cryptocurrency. A trader on the stock market gets time off the clock. But a crypto trader has the chance at every hour of the day to be making money.

The market is currently validating cryptocurrency. Over the past few days, the fluctuations in Bitcoin’s price reflect the skeptical sentiment of its naysayers. But Bitcoin’s ability to absorb this dent and rebound means that the market is validating the technology. 

Many times, we leave conversations about cryptocurrency more confused than enlightened. If it’s all based off speculative value, then why does the price keep rising? If it’s a bubble, so is everything else, so why does that matter? If blockchain technology removes corruption via transparency, then why wouldn’t it replace every technology in the world?

Most of our world’s problems are rooted in financial corruption. So what happens when financial corruption is no longer possible because cryptocurrency is the universal method of payment? Do the problems disappear? If so, what does that new world look like?

We live in a decentralized world. No longer do the people you hire or products you sell need to physically be in the building you work at. Websites like Upwork and Alibaba make getting a developer in India or a product sourced from China easier than trying to do the same in-person. Geographical barriers no longer exist.

We’ve all heard about Bitcoin, but what about Ethereum? Ethereum is the boring infrastructure, the blockchain that every new crypto technology seems to be building on top of. It’s the thing behind-the-scenes that is getting everyone rich. Yet Bitcoin gets all the headlines.

There’s much more than Bitcoin. Every day a new token, coin, technology, or platform is released to the market. Each has its own angle or code that has investors and crypto-experts talking. While many are worth noticing, the reality is that most aren’t what they’re hyped up to be. And it’s up to us to separate the real up-and-comers from the ones that will inevitably fizzle out.
