It has all led up to this. We started with 128 sidekicks and we are down to two competitors in the Superior Sidekick bracket. We go over each character's history as well as some key difference between the two characters. We also spend some time in the beginning of the episode breaking down some of the movie trailers from the Big Game and at the end of the show we give a spoiler free and spoiler filled Deadpool review. Don't worry. There is plenty of warning if you haven't seen it yet.
The heat is on! We bring musician and graphic designer Nick Porcaro to the show to dissect the final four round of the Superior Sidekick bracket. There are a couple of pretty surprising results. The Superior Sidekick bracket is really starting to heat up. Nando and DJ go over the results of the Sweet Sixteen round of voting to reveal the Elite Eight competitors. Roommate of the show Kenny Goff is our sidekick and he bluffs his way through match up after match up in an attempt to seem like an expert and it almost works! This week, the sidekick field is finally starting to narrow. We bring on Disney superfan Michelle Coraci to take the 64 remaining competitors in the Superior Sidekick bracket down to 32. DJ brags about his Morty related Reddit post. Nando asks whether Bucky is a better Cap sidekick than Falcon. Michelle questions whether Pikachu is really a sidekick at all.
Sooooooo this week's episode is two and a half hours long. We think it's really good, so we didn't trim it. Perhaps in the future we will attempt to shorten the episodes from Tarantino film to regular film. No promises though. This week we go over the second half of the 128 round of voting on the Superior Sidekick bracket. Kevin Su stops by to go through some of the anime match ups. Nando explains why Groot might be the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe. DJ gives preemptive reviews for 2016's comic book movies.
We have made it to 2016 and with the new year, we have the new round of the bracket! Well, actually its more of a half round. You see, because we decided to make the Superior Sidekick bracket a 128 competitor contest, we split the first round of voting in half. So this week, we have the results from the Comics and Anime/Video Games Conferences and the match ups from the TV and Movies/Book Conferences. We also take some time at the end of the episode to look back at the pop culture that made 2015 so...yeah...TV was good, though.
Let's get it started! This week we kick off the Superior Sidekick bracket with help from MBS CTO Caroline Amaba. Next week we will explore the TV and Movie/Book side of the bracket and vote on those match ups. Nando explains the tragic origin story for one of the most feared Red Lanterns, a blue house cat. DJ explains the premise behind a show called Kill La Kill and why that name is actually great. Caroline gives us some background on everyone's new favorite show, One Punch Man!
No bracket this week! I know, right? Instead we are going to talk for an absurdly long time about our Star Wars: The Force Awakens opinions. There are plenty of Spoilers! We warn you a bunch. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't listen. We won't be mad. Next week we will start the Superior Sidekick bracket.
