On the evening of July 24th, 2018 - a Wednesday - 39-year old Andrya DeGhelder was a no-show for her shift at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. This was very unlike Andrya, a divorced mother of one, who had a reputation for being reliable and punctual. Her coworkers contacted a friend, who tried to get in-touch with Andrya. Eventually, after paying Andrya an unsuccessful house call, this friend contacted the local sheriff's office, who paid a visit to Andrya's home in Grovetown, Georgia. There, police would find a chaotic crime scene, which they believe pointed to an abduction. On May 7th, 1982, 54-year old Joan Kipp returned home from her job as a guidance counselor. She was planning to spend the weekend away with her husband, at their Connecticut summer home, to celebrate Mother's Day. But when she arrived home, she saw that she had received a package in the mail: a cookbook, which she believed to be an early Mother's Day gift. Unfortunately for Joan, the cookbook had been hollowed out. Inside, a three-barreled "zip gun" had been created, which shot out at her as soon as she opened it. Joan would become the only casualty of an unknown assailant, who mailed out several of these packages between 1982 and 1996. On November 1st, 2008, a 9-page whitepaper found its way online. Titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-To-Peer Electronic Cash System," the whitepaper's author clearly articulated their goal to create a decentralized digital currency.  The only catch was: this author, named "Satoshi Nakamoto," was a complete unknown. Whoever they were, they had registered a domain for "bitcoin.org" in August of that year, and the publication of this whitepaper predated the official launch of Bitcoin by a mere two months.  In the decade since, Bitcoin has grown to be the world's leading cryptocurrency. Kelly Boyce grew up along the northwestern coast of Michigan state. She graduated from Benzie Central High School in 2003, before moving to Traverse City - a cozy coastal town known for its scenic beaches and annual cherry festival. There, she met a young man named Paul Hurlbert. Upon meeting, the two fell madly in love, and by 2012, the two were married. They continued to live in Traverse City, and were building a promising life for themselves: one full of love and laughs. All of that came to a screeching halt in July of 2013. In the mid-2000's, an Australian man named Fred Pattison moved to Thailand. He had recently fallen in love with a Thai woman named Vanidda, who had two daughters from a prior marriage: Siri ("Pang") and Siriyakorn ("Bung"). In 2008, the family moved to the area of Melbourne, Victoria. They began working towards a better future, and the two girls - Pang and Bung - began attending Australian schools (which they hoped would give them a leg up in the future). All was fine for a time, until the morning of June 2nd, 2011. At around 8:15 that morning, Bung left for school; a walk that normally took her ten minutes. In October of 1990, a man named David Scott Campbell was arrested in Philadelphia, Mississippi... the same city where, 30 years prior, three civil rights workers had been abducted and murdered by members of the KKK. On his first night in prison - which, coincidentally, was also his 21st birthday - Campbell took his own life. Two years later, in August of 1992, a young man from Jackson, MS met a same fate. Andre Jones, the eighteen-year-old son of a NAACP chapter president and a Nation of Islam minister, was arrested and transferred to a neighboring county. There, he also met his unfortunate end. These two young men were just endemic of a larger problem plaguing Mississippi jails and prisons over a six-year period, from 1987 to 1993. On the morning of November 6th, 2001, a customer walked into a Florence, Montana hair salon. Just inside, she would make a shocking discovery. Inside the salon, just waiting to be discovered, were the bodies of three women: 62-year old Dorothy Harris, 44-year old Brenda Patch, and 71-year old Cynthia Paulus. All three were the last you'd expect to find in the middle of a murder investigation. Over the next two decades, the investigation would focus on a number of connections: an "oddly-dressed man" seen leaving the salon that morning; a similar murder that took place in Great Bend, Kansas; and finally, a local illegal narcotics operation. In October of 1974, a young woman named Arlis Perry was brutally murdered in the Stanford Memorial Church. Over the years, her case has been bandied about as a potential cult-based murder, has been tied to unrelated offenders such as the Son of Sam, and even became the focus of many "Satanic Panic" theories in the 1980s. On January 4th, 2001, a Seattle-area real estate agent met up with a potential client in a parking lot. This client, who had contacted the realtor directly, was described as both "odd" and "weird." While viewing a home in the area of Woodinville, WA, the real estate agent, Mike Emert, was brutally killed by an unknown attacker. The crime - which was particularly brutal - looked to be premeditated and methodically planned. For years, the mystery of Mike's death has haunted his family, friends, and other real estate agents in the Pacific Northwest. Between December of 1968 and October of 1969, four separate attacks left the San Francisco Bay Area shaking. Two attacks happened in the area of Vallejo, another took place along scenic Lake Berryessa, and the final incident took place in San Francisco itself - in the wealthy neighborhood of Presidio Heights. A madman, who referred to himself as "The Zodiac," began corresponding with the media at around the same time. He took credit for the attacks, and - as the attacks progressed - he became more confident and began threatening police, journalists, and even school-children. Three weeks after the Fourth of July shooting incident at Blue Rock Springs Park - in Vallejo, California - a mysterious series of letters were received by publications in San Francisco's Bay Area. The writer offered up a three-part cipher, which supposedly contained the identify of the shooter. As the media began to pick apart these cryptograms, another couple of crimes seem to continue the killer's crime spree. First, a young couple is brutally attacked at Napa County's scenic Lake Berryessa in September of 1969; then, a San Francisco cab driver is randomly targeted just weeks later, in October. There, they were shot and killed by an unknown assailant. For months, the investigation into the shooting of David and Betty faltered... until a similar crime took place a handful of miles away.
