 Tristan Brübach | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:53:00

On March 26th, 1998, thirteen-year-old Tristan Brübach went to school (in the Höchst district of Frankfurt). He had tried to skip class, telling both his father and his teachers that he needed to see a doctor, but he would be in-attendance for most of the school day. Early that afternoon, Tristan would be granted an early release (by school officials) to see a doctor. Using public transportation, Tristan headed to a nearby train station... where - bizarrely - he ended up sitting around for several hours. Classmates would later recall that he might have been waiting for someone. Hours later - in the early evening - the body of Tristan Brübach would be found in a nearby underpass. He had become the victim of a bizarre and savage killer, who has not been identified in the 20+ years since...   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron Learn more about today's sponsor, Zola, by heading to zola.com/unresolved (where you can use the promo code "unresolved" to save $50 on your wedding planning experience) This podcast features a promo for The Nowhere Dispatch, hosted by my friend, Lucas   Music Credits ROZKOL - "Hoenikker" Borrtex - "Realization" Rest You Sleeping Giant - "Sleep" Kai Engel - "Wake Up" Xenojam - "Abduction" Percival Pembroke - "Ammonia" The Pangolins - "Beneath Dark Clouds" Noiseonport - "Spectre" Graham Bole - "Soylent Green" Rotten Bliss - "Lighthouse" Other music written and composed by Ailsa Traves

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Three: The Devil's Butcher Shop) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:59:00

On February 3rd, 1980, the riot at the New Mexico State Pen carried on into its second full day. Negotiations continued, but with a handful of prison guards still captive, the inmates were holding most of the leverage. Eventually, a peace would be brokered and order would be restored to the penitentiary. The facility itself, though, was in total disarray, and the expensive cleanup effort that followed would prove costly (not only financially, but emotionally). In the months and years that followed, the story would continue to plague the region. After-effects of the riot would be felt for years to come, and many still question certain aspects of it...   Part three of three   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron   Music Credits Graham Bole - "Lurking" Blue Dot Sessions - "Arbinac" Percival Pembroke - "Op. 10 Sigma Variations (Excerpt)" ROZKOL - "If These" ROZKOL - "Palaver" Borrtex - "The Undertake" Rotten Bliss - "Lighthouse" Rest You Sleeping Giant - "Moss" Other music written and composed by Ailsa Traves

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Two: The Hate Factory) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:51:00

In the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980, a dozen inmates at New Mexico's State Penitentiary took four prison guards hostage. Within an hour, more than ten guards would be taken captive, and hundreds of inmates were freed from their cells. The facility, which had been made aware of the dangers in the months preceding the riot, had done little to prepare for it. The rioting inmates made easy work of the lax security protocols meant to keep them at-bay, and - within hours - had free rein of the entire prison. What would follow would be hours of bloodshed... the likes of which were nearly-unparalleled in American history. As prison officials and law enforcement struggled to gain control of the situation, they quickly learned that they had underestimated the unadulterated rage that had been festering for years...   Part two of three   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron   Music Credits Xenojam - "Chtonic" ROZKOL - "Hell Slime" How the Night Came - "IV - C6H807" Blue Dot Sessions - "Thread of Clouds" Parvus Decree - "Hive Mind" ROZKOL - "The Institute Laboratories" Kai Engel - "Silence" Other music written and composed by Ailsa Traves and Monty Buckles

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part One: Powder Keg) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:52:00

Throughout the 20th century, the New Mexico State Penitentiary earned a reputation of being, ironically, a lawless place - where violent and non-violent prisoners were forced to co-exist in cramped and deplorable conditions. Violence was constant, and certain cell blocks were allowed to run rampant over others. To make matters even worse, the prison's revolving door of wardens through the 1970's kept implementing changes, but just ended up creating vacuums... which were only ever filled with apathy and disorder. This eventually reached a head in the final days of 1979, when rumors of a vicious uprising began spreading through the facility. Prison officials thought nothing of it at the time, but in the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980... the powder keg could no longer be contained.  Sunset Limited Derailment | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:00

In the early morning hours of October 9th, 1995, Amtrak's Sunset Limited - which regularly traveled between coasts - slipped off of the tracks in rural Arizona. As investigators began looking into the cause of this wreck, they discovered that this was no accident. A group (or an individual masquerading as a group) had conspired to make this derailment happen, leaving four copies of a rambling & poetic "manifesto" at the crime scene. All four letters were signed with the same moniker: "Sons of the Gestapo" (or, abbreviated, "S.O.G."). Despite an investigation that has spanned more than two decades, looked into extremist groups across North America, and offered up a $310,000 reward, the train's saboteurs have never been identified.   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron This episode features a promo for my friends Shea and Erin, who host the informative & entertaining podcast All Crime No Cattle   Music Credits OKAM vs ps - "Exploring the Convoluted Singularity" Squire Tuck - "What Will Be Will Be (Organ Remix)" The Gateless Gate - "Approaching Snow Squall" Graham Bole - "Nae Shaam" How the Night Came - "I - HNO3" ROZKOL - "The Fruit Will Rot" Chris Zabriskie - "I Used to Need the Violence" Alan Spiljak - "Forgotten" Forlon - "Roembden Crater" Other original music created and composed by Ailsa Traves

 The Wolfs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

Between 2004 and 2006, a married couple took the Florida real estate market by storm. Victor and Natalia Wolf, who had immigrated to the U.S. a few years earlier from Russia and Germany, had a plan to reinvigorate the central Florida coast. In particular, they set their sights on a town called Citrus Springs, hoping to build a thriving community. Through a number of companies and subsidiaries, the Wolfs built a company worth tens of millions of dollars. But almost as soon as their ascent began, it came to light that the Wolfs were not who they claimed to be. Over a decade later, their identities - and whereabouts - remain a mystery...   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron Learn more about today's sponsor, Zola, by heading to zola.com/unresolved (where you can use the promo code "unresolved" to save $50 on your wedding planning experience) This episode features a promo for one of my favorite podcasts, Swindled, which focuses on white collar crime and corporate greed   Music Credits ROZKOL - "On The Run" Yan Terrien - "BabaBase" How the Night Came - "III - H3P04" Alan Piljak - "Harmony" Sara Afonso - "Underwater - 01" ROZKOL - "Stay Quiet" Kai Engel - "After Midnight" Nctrnm - "Parade" ROZKOL - "Opening Credits" Graham Bole - "Theme For Rosa" Other original music created and composed by Ailsa Traves

 San Francisco John Doe #60 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:00

On June 15th, 1985, the body of a young man was found in San Francisco's SoMa district. Despite being unable to learn the man's identity, police quickly discovered that the young man had been tortured and mutilated before his death. Just days after his discovery, the Santa Ana Orange County Register declared that the victim had been "bled to death and that he was butchered in ritualistic fashion in a type of devil-worship ceremony." Two years later, a violent convict confessed to having covered up the crime for his former-lover and roommate. The following investigation and trial would unearth a cult that had been preying on San Francisco's most vulnerable... or did both fall prey to the decade's rampant Satanic Panic?   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron This episode features a promo for the podcast Murder Mile, which provides an interesting take on the true crime genre   MusicCredits ROZKOL - "The Fruit Will Rot" Percival Pembroke - "North Atlantic Treaty Organization" Rec008 - "Contemplation" Sergey Cheremisinov - "Sleepwalker IV" Other original music created & composed by Ailsa Traves

LeRoy Carter Jr. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:39:00

LeRoy Carter Jr. was a Vietnam veteran, who returned to the states and struggled to get his life back on-track. He became a transient, who spent several years trying to stay out of jail for a litany of petty crimes. On the evening of Saturday, February 7th, 1981, Carter found a quiet alcove along Alvord Lake, in the scenic-yet-troubled Golden Gate Park, where he proceeded to fall asleep. The next morning, a young woman found Carter's "blood-spattered" backpack in Golden Gate Park - which she immediately turned into police. When an officer arrived at the park to investigate the origins of the bloody bag, he had no idea he was about to make one of the most horrifying discoveries in California history...   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron This episode features a promo from my buddy Adam, who hosts Point Blank: A True Crime Podcast   Music Credits OKAM vs ps - "Slit View of the Rapture" Yan Terrien - "Rose Baba" How the Night Came - "III - H3PO4" Rest You Sleeping Giant - "Themes From Frost" Alan Piljak - "Flying Away" Other original music created & composed by Ailsa Traves

 Philip Onyancha | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:06:00

On June 5th, 2010, Kenyan authorities reported that a 32-year old man living in Nairobi - named Philip Onyancha - had been taken into custody. Onyancha had come into police cross-hairs during a kidnapping investigation, exploring the circumstances in which a nine-year old boy had gone missing. Weeks after the boy disappeared, a ransom note appeared, demanding money be sent through a mobile application. Unbeknownst to Philip Onyancha, police were tracking the money. Within days, it led straight to him and his associates. But Onyancha had some secrets of his own, including the largest one: that he belonged to a murderous cult, and was well on his way to becoming Kenya's most infamous serial killer...   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron This episode features a promo from my friends Casey and Samantha, who co-host the podcast True Crime Story Time   Music Credits OKAM vs ps - "Understanding the Limits of Symbiotic Echolocation" Chris Zabriskie - "I Used to Need the Violence" DR - "Wassilij Andrejewitsch Brechnuow Nikita" ROZKOL - "Turn the Whole World to Rust" Alan Piljak - "Something Wonderful" Andrew Reddy - "A Breath" How the Night Came - "IV C6H807" Magna Ingress - "Anahata I" ROZKOL - "Spider's Web" Dexter Britain - "Seeing the Future" Other original music created by Ailsa Traves

Snohomish County Jane Doe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:00

On August 14th, 1977, a pair of blackberry pickers were walking in a wooded area of Everett, Washington - nearby Mariner High School and Paine Field. There, they found the decomposing body of a young woman, who had been brutally murdered.  Over the next week, police focused in their investigation on a single suspect: a man named David Marvin Roth, who had confessed to a friend (and who had also been arrested a few days after the murder on unrelated charges).  Eventually, Roth would be convicted for the murder of this young woman... whose identity remained a mystery. Investigators have yet to figure out who she was, and what events led her to encounter Roth on the day of her murder...   Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Learn more about this podcast at unresolved.me  If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron   Music Credits Rest You Sleeping Giant - "Themes From Frost" Scott Holmes - "Feeling Sunny" noiseonport - "Spectre" ROZKOL - "Monkey and Moulage" Borrtex - "Peaceful Mind" Parvus Decree - "Thoughts About Future" Daniel James Dolby - "Yearning" Rotten Bliss - "Two Sisters"

The Texarkana Moonlight Murders (Part Two: The Town That Dreaded Sundown) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:11:00

In May of 1946, a violent crime unfolds just outside of Texarkana. A farm owner and his wife are shot multiple times by a mysterious attacker, who seems to have disappeared into thin air. While the assault bears a resemblance to a recent string of murders in Texas, it features a number of notable outliers; outliers which make investigators hesitant to officially name it a part of the recent spree. Over the next several decades, this case would grow cold. The murders would inspire an endless amount of theories, urban legends, copycats, and even a cult film, but the perpetrator - Texarkana's mysterious "Phantom Killer" - would never be identified.  The Texarkana Moonlight Murders (Part One: The Phantom) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:51:00

Texarkana is a metropolitan area that is split between Texas and Arkansas. In the 1940's, as World War Two began raging overseas, the area became a hotbed of manufacturing and storage for the war effort. Just months after the end of the war - in February of 1946 - a masked menace began lashing out at young couples in lovers' lanes. The first two victims lived to tell their tale, but the next several victims wouldn't be as lucky. As the hunt began to find this madman, the case would attract the attention of county, state, and even federal officials. Eventually, the killer perpetrating these acts would earn a nickname: the Phantom.  Gustave | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:16:00

Starting in 1987, villagers in the central African nations of Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) began to float rumors of a vicious crocodile haunting the Ruzizi River.  This crocodile - a large male Nile Crocodile - was spotted several times over the next several decades. Eventually, his fearsome appearance and ferocity made him an urban legend throughout the region. Named Gustave by herpetologist Patrice Faye, this crocodile has become a reminder that monsters still roam the Earth. He is rumored to have killed more than 300 people, making him one of the most fearsome killers in history...   This is a small bonus episode to help tide you over until Unresolved returns in a couple of weeks.
