In the Studio with Michael Card

We’ll start the hour with Michael teaching at a recent Biblical Imagination Conference. Have your thinking stretched as we explore the topic of Hessed and “linguistic gravity”. Then David Dillard join us for an unforgettable time of conversation and music. We’ll learn about his work building banjos, hear him play and discuss his ministry work with the Kurd’s in Nashville and Iraq. And Jeff Taylor joins in the session and plays some music with Dave from their CD titled “Clawhammer Hymns”. The theme of this very full session, learning about hessed by seeing it lived out. And we’ll do this through teaching, talking and amazing “pickin’”.

We’ll start off with author Brennan Manning about his book titled The Rabbi’s Heartbeat. The conversation will center on how we all can develop an intimate relationship with Jesus. As part of the discussion Michael will play the new song based on this book. In the second half, Jazz Saxophonist Kirk Whalum joins us to talk about his journey of faith as he developed his career and grew in musical ability. Kirk brought his saxophone to the studio so we’ll hear some outstanding performances from his visit.

We’ll start the hour with our good friend and musician Jeff Taylor. Jeff has been on the road with Michael and has been a part of many “classic” Mole End sessions. This time he’ll share his love for hymns and the stories behind the music. And with Jeff in session there’ll be much more. And Michael will continue to teach on hessed from a recent Biblical Imagination Conference. Have your thinking stretched as we explore the topic, “Words have Meaning”.

We’ve reached back in the archives for this week’s Classic release of In the Studio With Michael Card, Dr. George Guthrie joins us for lively study on living out our faith based in God’s righteous wisdom found in the book of James. In our creativity section Don Wyrtzen stops by the studio to give us some direction on how to listen to great music. Then Michael has a chance to talk up with Gary Witherhall. Gary’s first wife Bonnie was killed in November 2002 while serving Christ in Lebanon. We’ll find out how God is working in his life.

We’re excited to introduce Anthony Pickett who teaches at the “On The Way” Wednesday morning Bible class in Franklin, Tennessee. Anthony will share how a love of God’s word can ripple in to all parts of our spiritual life. Then, singer/songwriter Nathan Tasker stops by the studio. He’ll talk with Michael about their relationship and share insights into the song writing process. Along the way Nathan will present some of his songs.

We begin our session "in the studio" with concert highlights from a performance in Waukegan, Illinois. Michael will be teaching on the life of Simon Peter and singing songs from the album A Fragile Stone.Then, we’ll head back to the studio where Calvin Miller joined us to talk about developing ways to present the truth of God’s word in creative ways. Calvin went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2012 and we want to honor his memory with an incredible moment at the Mole End studio when Calvin and Phil Keaggy collaborated on piece called “Marionetta”.

Our session beings with an insightful conversation with Pastor Erik DiVietro who of talks about developing spiritual health in churches with congregations under 200 people. Then Michael address the question, “What do you do when God is your enemy?” We’ll look at the life of Jeremiah and the book of Lamentations for an answer as we continue our series on Biblical Lament.

This week’s “Classic” In The Studio With Michael Card will feature the celebration of broadcast program 200. It has been a humble privilege to be on the air every week for the past few years and this hour is our way on expressing thanks for our listeners. Here’s what is coming up on Program 200: Music by Michael, a conversation with Dr. John Piper on the meaning of the Gospel, and a visit with the men of The Empty Hands Fellowship. The deep study of God’s Word and the expression of true Biblical community are a fitting ways to mark this important milestone broadcast.

We’ll continue our study of Biblical lament as Michael traces the life situations of David in the Psalms. And we’ll spotlight Fair Play Camp and their ministry to troubled teens when we talk with the executive director David Hochstetler and pastor JD Miller. Throughout the hour we’ll hear some of Michael’s early music including his first song composed at the request of Dr. Bill Lane. You’ll want to have your Bible open and your heart ready to be stirred from teaching, conversation and Michael’s music.

We begin with the first half of a conversation with Pastor and author Dr. John Piper. Dr. Piper joins us at the Mole End studio for discussion this week about the power of God’s word in our lives. Then in the second half we’ll welcome back Larry Warren who talks about how we all can be a part of fulfilling Christ’s great commission. And we’ll wrap up the hour by meeting music therapist, Dr. Deforia Lane who explains how music is used to bring comfort and relief to the patients she works with.

There’s a new session waiting for you In the Studio with Michael Card. Our commentary segment will restart our study series on Biblical lament. Michael draws our attention to the life of David and how he expresses his life situations in the Psalms. The community focus will come from our producer Joe Carlson who will talk about his work as a Chaplain at the Cook County Jail. In Depth teaching, challenging conversation and studio performances of Michael’s music that links the hour together in a meaningful way.

We’ll start with opening God’s word with Pastor Hewitt Sawyers as he takes us to Philippians for a soul stirring discussion is on the importance of living in the will of God. In the second half, singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson stops by the Mole End studio with Ben Shive and Andy Gullahorn. Together they’ll perform several songs and talk about the issues that Andrew struggles with as he serves Christ through his music.

It’s a summer road trip on this edition of In the Studio with Michael Card. Join us for a tour of cities ancient and modern. We’ll start with our friend Dr. Corrado Primavera who takes us back to AD 64 to uncover the details behind the great fire in Rome and how that affected the early Christians. Then, we’ll turn our attention to modern urban issues with Dr. John Fuder. Dr. Fuder is the founder of Heart For the City, author of the Chicago Neighborhood Prayer Guide and works with Chicagoland United in Prayer. He’ll talk about taking the hope of the gospel to the streets in desperate times.

This session was recorded at the Mole End Studio, and will begin with Michael teaching from the Gospels and the book of Hebrews. The focus will be on the way God the Father related to Jesus while He was on Earth. In the second half we welcome back New York artist Makoto Fujimura. Makoto will join us for a discussion of two films, “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” and King Kong. Then, we’ll meet a new friend, David Zanotti. We’ll learn about his calling to bring principals of redemption to his work with public policy in the public square. Along with these thoughtful conversations we’ll hear several songs performed by Michael.

Join us as we welcome back worship leader Ayanda Khumalo. He’ll talk with Michael about practical steps for living and worshiping as a multicultural church, united in Christ. Later, we’ll feature a concert set from a Biblical Imagination conference recorded in Stow, Ohio.
