It had to happen. Rob Burnett, who made the 1999 cult comedy Free Enterprise and is one of the most knowledgeable Trek experts online, going back to his 90's episode reviews of Star Trek Voyager . These days Rob is reviewing Discovery eps for Colider Video's You Tube Channel , and has his problems with the basic storytelling and characterizations of the crew and the Klingons, based on the "rules" of Trek Univehrse stories all the spin-offs comics and novels have followed. Are we being too picky,or is. Discovery under performing?  Strap in for a fun trek conversation 

Frank Frazetta died in 2010. he fantasy artist left a body of work in comics bookcovers film posters and paintings that modern fantasy artists continue to emulate and get inspirations. The Frazetta Museum has reopened and is in the midst of a kickstarter campaign to raise funds, in addition to great products at their website Fisrt Moises Chiullan joins us to explain the amazing new limited edition silk screen t-shirts they're selling based on 4 classic Frazetta paintings, and the painstaking process to recreate the texture of the originals. Then a great chat with Frank Jr telling great stories about his father's works process and legacy.   

Great to have Sarah back. Lots of terrific IDW trek comics are happening now. The Star Trek Boldy Go series set in the JJ Abrahms film universe started a new multi universe story called IDIC. She also previews the Discovery prequel series focusing on T'Kuvma and The Kingon Deathship crew cominng later this month, and more. Plus we cant help talking about the new streaming series, with the fall hiatus starting next week. Good thing there's plenty of quality IDW trek comics to get us to the Jan half of the season. 

The news is out Brian Bendis leaves Marvel after 17 years, and has signed a new deal with DC comics. What will he write? There may be clues in past Bendis Tapes Discussions here in the Word Balloon archives . You'll hear my take as well as initial reactions from The League Of Word Balloon Listeners . Then Novelist Bill Schweigart joins us to discuss his trilogy of Fantasy Action Novels The Beast Of Barcroft , Northwoods and The Devil's Colony. Publishers Weekly says "Readers who appreciate a B-movie sensibility, affable characters, and a sense of fun along with their scares will find much to enjoy." Bill tells us about the books and the twists and turns he experienced bringing the trilogy to life. 

Back by popular demand Jason Inman from DC Access videos and so much more geek content is joined by his co host of the Geek History Podcast and Colider's Star Trek Discovery review show Ashley Robinson. He interviews famous guests, comedy writers and others who worked on the show to explore it's  impact on 20th century pop culture . Johnny's Tonight Show is still the gold standard to which all late night hosts since measure their current success.

You'll hear about his adventures in voice over animation, but that's only Phil's recent history  He also revolutionized subversive sketch comedy with his co members of The Firesign Theater doing counter culture anti establishment bits long before Monty Python or Cheech and Chong . Their ground breaking style of improvisations first played on live radio then they signed with Columbia & later Rhino Records to create almost 20 albums from the 60s thru the 2000s.  Phil has a new autobiography WHERE'S MY FORTUNE COOKIE which documents his adventures living the Hollywood Rock N Roll lifestyle of the 60s-70s with crazy adventures in TV Film and making comedy.

We talk about his work on the John Byrne Frank Miller Wolverine imini series, the casting of artists for his long running work on The official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe and much more.

This is a great read for Holmes and steampunk fans.  We also go full blast into Kareem's life long love of comcs from buying them at his local candy store as a child, to his adult appreciation of the books today.
