October 10, 2019 | Miller Chapel Sermon: “The Blessing of Conviction” Scripture: Matthew 5:10-12 If you believe you are a citizen of the reign of Christ on earth, you have to live by the convictions of this true city of God to which you belong. That inevitably means there will be those who do all they can to persecute these convictions out of you. Some of them are even in the church. But the blessing is that you know who you are, what you believe, and how you will use your life no matter the cost.

We are completely dependent upon the grace of God who makes us righteous in Christ. The mark of truly apprehending this grace is that it is what we want to spend our lives offering to others.
September 19, 2019 | Miller Chapel Sermon: “The Blessing of a Savior” Scripture: Matthew 5:4–5 We all experience inevitable losses for which we mourn, and seek comfort. But the meek are those who open their hands to accept these losses in order to receive more of Christ than we knew before the loss. To inherit Christ is to become gentle, not weak. Only those strong in the grace of a Savior can afford the lifestyle of gentleness.
September 12, 2019 | Miller Chapel Sermon: “The Blessing of Spiritual Poverty” Scripture: Matthew 5:1-3 This is the beginning of a series of Thursday homilies on the Beatitudes. Each of them will attempt to get to the ironic twist I believe Jesus was offering. The first one stresses that those who are truly spiritual are only clear about their poverty of spirituality, which means it’s all about grace.
September 5, 2019 | Opening Communion in Miller Chapel Sermon: “Scattered Languages” Scripture: Genesis 11:1-9 Maybe God’s response to the Tower of Babel was a grace. We now have many languages. As Toni Morrison claimed, the calling of all people is to live in a world where not everyone speaks your tongue. This means you have to make room for others who will speak differently about even God.
