September 27, 2018 | Miller Chapel "These proclaim Christ out of love… the other proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition…" (1:16-17) Some expressions of Christianity are embarrassing. Often it appears that the more anti-intellectual, and theologically naïve preachers are the more popular they are. But that should not be our deepest embarrassment. The real problem is the lack of love that sometimes accompanies our theological sophistication.

We are now tempted to believe life is a series of disconnected events that have no meaning apart from what we bring to them. But by grace, we have been incorporated into the good work of a Creator who is not done.

We tend to think more seriously about the spirituality of the cross and suffering, then we do the spirituality of having a merry heart. But God has approved our joy.
