After the Board of Supervisors went through the process to fill the seat, IE United sued the County stating they were not transparent during their election process. IE United’s mission is to place progressives into Inland Empire political offices. This appears to be a partisan issue due to Dawn Rowe being a Republican. General Manager for 29 Palms Cemetery District accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the organization.

Town of Yucca Valley looked at recommendations for the Town’s proposed indoor Aquatics center. The state of California has given a grant to the Town for improvements, but 5 million has been spent for unknown costs. Project Phoenix will be breaking ground next month in Twentynine Palms. The local Van Dyke Corporation will get the contract from the city of Twentynine Palms for sewer and water improvements. Open Phone Topics: Ventura County judge declares that violent sexual predator will not be released in San Bernardino County. Under the law a child molester must go to a mental hospital after serving time in prison. If psychiatrist believes the predator is safe to release to the public, an independent company is hired to find a home for the predator. Former predators should be released in their own County under the law. Ventura, Sacremento, and San Bernardino Counties all opposed the release of this repeat violent sexual predator into their County. The Dollar General will be opening in Joshua Tree in the near future and will serve the needs of the community for purchasing their essentials without having to drive to another town. The first flush of the first home connected to the Yucca Valley sewer system.

Open Phone Topics: Fire Protection Zone 5 fire taxes passed with a protest vote. Every property owner in Yucca Valley is double taxed for fire protection. San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors is trying to charge this tax for 3 years. Morongo Unified School District is proposing another school bond. Residents are still paying for the last bond on their property tax bill. Numerous serious and fatal traffic collisions in the area recently. Delineators between lanes in portions of Yucca Valley have helped prevent serious traffic collisions in those areas. Is Daylight Savings Time still needed in our modern times? Listeners outraged over new Fire Protection and Gas taxes. Sewer Project resulting in additional property tax increases. San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors plan to place a possible tax measure on a future ballot. Fire Protection Zone 5 fire taxes have passed for at least three years with a protest vote only. California lottery was supposed to help provide public school funding but did not.

In-Studio Guests: San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon and Morongo Basin Sheriff Captain Trevis Newport. Topics Discussed: The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is taking every action possible to stop the planned relocation of Ross Wollschlager to a rental property in North Joshua Tree. McMahon explained that law enforcement’s valuable limited resources would have to be diverted to protect the public and Wollschlager. Morongo Basin Sheriff Capt. Trevis Newport said deputies have been canvasing the area and documenting the number of those at risk with the idea of presenting their findings to the Ventura County Court. A final determination will be made November 7.

Open Phone Topics: A Ventura County judge has ordered that a convicted rapist and child molester be housed in Joshua Tree. Residents were notified by Sheriff’s deputies. An emergency meeting to protest his placement in Joshua Tree and San Bernardino County has been planned. At least four instances of local residents being attacked by bee swarms. San Bernardino County Public Health Services advises those who disturb bees to run in a straight line, find shelter, and don’t swipe at the bees, as they will give off a scent that attracts other bees to attack you. Following an attack, remove any stingers and see a doctor.

Open Phone Topics: Lori Herbel, operator of Joshua Tree Certified Farmer’s Market, called in regarding the notice she received from San Bernardino County indicating that Herbal was operating outside of her original use permit due to larger number of vendors as well as non-produce vendors. San Bernardino County code enforcement is giving Herbel the opportunity to revise her permit to get back into compliance. San Bernardino County approved a 55-unit airstream campground in Joshua Tree. A sewage package plant will be built in order to accommodate the waste handling needs of the campground.

In Studio Guest: West Valley Detention Center Inmate Services Manager Chris Martin. Topics Discussed: AV109 handled the overcrowding in the prison system by transferring prisoners to County Jails. Sentencing guidelines were changed in order to categorize inmates differently. The desire to rehabilitate as many individuals as possible while they are in prison. The goal of making the community safer by looking at why crimes are committed and how to prevent future crime. Inmate educational programs designed to teach inmates skills in order to obtain employment after their release from prison.

The art tour runs north to south based off the highway in the Morongo Basin. Home studios, art compounds, and galleries will be open to the public for viewing and purchase. The unique opportunity in the Morongo Basin to visit an artist in their own studio spaces versus at a specific art venue outside of their space. Over thirty categories of art showcased during the Art Tours. The challenge of organizing the Art Tours guide in such a way that the voice of every artist, and every piece of information needed to get to each unique artist space or contact each artist was included. The challenge of meeting the needs of every artist and giving each and every artist a voice.
