In PPR pass catching running backs are supreme along with solid possession receivers who have reliable QBs. In Non-PPR leagues its all about touchdowns and yards. Look for a short yardage back who will be on the field for goal line situations along with big play receivers who run deeper routes. Two of the leagues more promising rookies suffered injuries this past week as Redskins RB Derrius Guice tore his ACL and Rashaad Penny broke his hand. It'll be next man up in both Seattle and Washington DC as Guice will miss the whole season and Penny will likely miss the first few weeks of the season. Tom warns strongly that all fantasy drafts should take place in the week between the final preseason game and the first regular season game. Tom looks at the comparisons between Jerrick McKinnon and Jordan Howard as well as fellow running backs Melvin Gordon and Alvin Kamara. The comparisons come to similar conclusion according to Tom. However, he also talks about Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson as gambles that he could be willing to take due to the high ceiling both players have. At running back you can find good value in a veteran like Dion Lewis however the risk/reward on a young player like Ronald Jones II could be worth making him your pick. Wide Receivers Corey Davis and Will Fuller could be concidered gambles but also have high ceilings. These are rankings created off of votes by current NFL players. Tom goes through the top ten players and gives his thoughts as to the ranking as well as their fantasy outlook for this coming season. Aaron Rodgers came in at number 10 which Tom tought was a bit low for Rodgers to go, but due to his injury last year that is his rank. The best two defensive players in the league found themselves in the top 10, Von Miller and Aaron Donald will likely make the biggest fantasy impact compared to other defensive players. Antonio Brown and Tom Brady finished in the 1 and 2 spots with Brady taking number one for the second straight year. On this episode of the GSMC Fantasy Football Podcast host Tom Dougherty talks about some of his favorite fantasy players from last season and speculates on their performace for this season. He highlights Todd Gurley, DeAndre Hopkins, Carson Wentz, and Travis Kelce. Gurley has not shown sustainablilty in the NFL, however with Sean McVay's offense he is due for another big year. DeAndre Hopkins is a beast no matter what, with Deshaun Watson in for a full season the sky is the limit in Houston. Carson Wentz might have some fantasy owners wary due to the knee injury, at his age should be able to bouce back and find the success he had last year.
