On the October 12 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film Senior Writer Ben Pearson and writer Chris Evangelista to talk about the latest film and tv news, including Wu-Tang, Black Panther 2, Aladdin, Daredevil Season 3 and in the mail bag we’ll answer some listener e-mail. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it).   In The News: Ben: ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Drama Series Heading to Hulu Chris: ‘Black Panther 2’: Ryan Coogler to Write and Direct Marvel Sequel Ben: Marvel Oscars Reaction: ‘Aladdin’ Teaser Trailer: Disney Invites You To a Whole New World Chris: ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Review: The Marvel Netflix Series Goes Back to the Basics   In The Mail Bag: Yesterday on the podcast, Peter wondered out loud if there had been an actor who had been in both DC and MCU movies simultaneously. A couple people responded with examples:Kyle says “Hey Peter, was just listening to the podcast from yesterday and got to the point where you and Ben talked about Marvel actor switching to DC. It's small, but Laurence Fishburne is Perry White in DC and Bill Foster in Marvel.” Damon says “Re: your conversation on about actors active in both MCU and DCU, although Djimon Hounsou’s Korath was killed in GOTG, he is returning in Captain Marvel.  He is also in Aquaman.” David C from California writes in, “Is there a movie song (or soundtrack) that you like, that comes from a movie that you don’t?  Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me by U2 came on the radio the other day. I bought that CD back in the day, and I loved that song — and today I can’t even recall if it came from the Clooney or the Kilmer Batman movie.    Being an old school hair metal fan, I really like the Last Action Hero soundtrack, but don’t care for that movie. Thank you for your show.”Peter: The 1998 Godzilla soundtrack Chris: Man of Steel Ben: Space Jam soundtrack, Scotty Doesn’t Know (Eurotrip), That Thing You Do! More people have written in with Zombie children movie suggestions:Tyler K says “I don't think this movie was mentioned but it was the first that came to my mind. It’s called Cooties and stars Elijah Wood. I haven't seen it but I remember the trailer and thought that it was an interesting idea.” Gokul from New Zealand writes in “I've been following the antics of David Chen and the /FilmCast for years, and now that /FilmDaily is around, it has quickly become my favourite podcast to listen to during my morning commute.  Carrying on from your comment from last week about zombie children, I would like to mention one of Peter Jackson's early movies, Brain Dead, which features an awesome zombie baby.   Without getting into spoilers, there's a scene with the baby and a blender that is just spectacular and even a little bit cathartic (no I'm not sadistic or twisted, it makes sense if you watch the movie) :)  I hope you check the movie out.  Love your guys work, and if any of the /Film crew ever come back to New Zealand (sorry I missed your visit here HT), I would love to have a drink or two with you and talk movies” Anthony C writes in “Hey Peter! I am long time reader of /Film and listener of /Film Daily. I wanted to get your opinion on if you need a college degree or cinema studies background to work in the world of film journalism. Also, is there a "beginners guide" on how to make an entrance into the film writing community? Right now I am in college and have been in college for what seems like forever. I have switched majors several times and I am starting to feel discouraged when it comes to finishing my degree. I am going for a degree in Environmental Health and Safety at the moment so that I can eventually make ends meet and be able to do something that brings me some kind of joy, but ultimately the degree I'm going for doesn't bring as much joy as watching films and reading/listening to people talk about films. I know it will be my decision in the end that will lead me to what I want to do in life, but I am just looking for a different look at this predicament. Thank you /Film team for all the amazing content you produce.” All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.  Biggest Film Pet Peeves, Movie Marathons, Mr. Mom, Fantasy Island, Rookie of the Year & Apple | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:55

And in the Mailbag we’ll answer some listener e-mails. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). In The News: Brad: ‘Mr. Mom’ TV Series Coming from MGM and Vudu Ben: Dave Bautista May Head To ‘Fantasy Island’, Which is Described as “Westworld Meets The Cabin in the Woods” Brad: ‘Rookie of the Year’ Remake in the Works at 20th Century Fox Brad: Apple Original Shows Will Be Free for Those with Apple Devices In The Mail Bag: Peter asked if listeners had nostalgia or love for the Chronicles of Narnia movie, and a few people responded”Nikita from Ukraine says “I'm 27 years old, and Chronicles of Narnia is my first book(s), so you can say that I have some nostalgia.   However, the main reason I decided to write is to state that Narnia is very different from Lord of The Rings. It presents a fun mix between Greek and Christian mythologies while LotR stays mainly in Scandinavian and German mythos.   The reason why they are so often conflated is because of the new horseshit movies like Prince Caspian or Voyage of the Dawn Treader that randomly decided to have very Tolkien-esque look with walking trees and whatnot, and completely forgotten what made C.S.Lewis's world unique.  I hope that Netflix gives the books justice and we finally get "The Last Battle".” Leanne R., LA says “Just wanted to give a bit of love to the Chronicles of Narnia series. I wouldn't call myself a hard-core follower of the Narnia film franchise, but growing up my paternal family was extremely Christian and CS Lewis was one of the few approved fantasy authors I could read, so I owned all the Narnia books as a child (Harry Potter was frowned upon, so naturally I read all those books too). I also have distinct memories of going to Blockbuster and seeing DVDs of the 90s BBC adaptation of the Narnia series that covered almost all of the books and really fueled my desire to see an adaptation on the big-screen. While the 2005-2010 franchise only spanned 3/7 books and didn't really garner as much success as other Children's Fantasy films (read: HARRY POTTER), I think it at least proved that the hardcore Christian audiences would show up for it, so I'm excited to see if Netflix does justice to Lewis's work as well as lives up to the the fantasy elements in the film franchise adaptation.   My only caveat is, as this was originally produced by Buena Vista/Disney, would that maybe conflict with how Netflix produces their version? And most importantly, could they afford to have Liam Neeson reprise his role as Aslan??  Anyhow, I hope this brought some added insight to the question of whether any Narnia fans exist out there. Thanks again for an informative pod, keep up the good work!” Andrew S says “Big fan of the podcast. You asked on the most recent episode if there are people excited about the Narnia Netflix news. I will raise my hand on that

Mail Bag: Favorite Genre, Disney Channel Movies, Emotional Films, Steelbook Blu-rays | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:29

On the October 4, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film weekend editor Brad Oman, and writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to answer some questions in the Mail Bag. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Opening Banter: HT is away but magically joining us through the power of a previously recorded show.   In The Mail Bag: Mike S asks “What is your favorite genre and favorite sub genre?”Peter: Big Event movies? If not maybe Sci-fi, Coming of Age drama/dramedy Chris: Horror & Stephen King adaptations HT: Lush fantasy/sci-fi that speak to the inherent goodness of humanity; sub-genre maybe fairy tale Brad: Comedy for overall genre, and comedies that are self-aware and meta, sometimes parodies, but not always Kolin from San José, CA writes in “What are some of your top Disney Channel Original movies from the 1990s?”Peter didn’t really watch many of the 90’s ones but did watch a couple 80’s ones: The Parent Trap II more times than he cares to admit, and Not Quite Human Chris: Mr. Boogedy HT: Smart House, Halloweentown, High School Musical (2000’s) Brad: was a Nickelodeon kid. Peter suggested there should be a zombie movie with baby zombies, James W wrote in “Closest thing I can think of to a zombie killer kids movie is this 2008 film The Children. I actually remember it being pretty fun.”Chris have you seen it and gives his opinion. Nicholas E from Chicago Heights, IL writes in “Hey guys, I was wondering which movies provoke a great emotional response for you. Whether it be something that makes you feel happy, sad, angry, etc. as long as it makes you feel something great. Keep up the good work, I’m a big fan of the show.”Peter is a sucker for crying in movies, E.T. Chris says  E.T. is a big one as well, and most Spielberg movies in general; and Lord of the Rings, specifically Fellowship of the Ring. HT cries over every movie that gives her hope, as well as transportative, bittersweet romances: A Little Princess, Bridge to Terabithia, Call Me By Your Name Brad: Movies with troubled or (almost) unrequited romance always pull at my heart strings. Eternal Sunshine. Sleeping with Other People. Like Crazy. Before Sunrise Trilogy. Andrew Haynes, from St Ives, Cambridgeshire UK writes in: “Hi Peter and friends,  Really enjoyed your discussion on physical vs digital media. I started out with VHS and even Betamax back in the day, then it was Laserdisc, DVD and now bluray 4k.  Whilst I'm resigned to the fact that one day physical media may die, I still think the picture and sound quality of bluray will always be better than digital download / streaming.  I'm also a fan of special features and commentary tracks. Also, a couple of years ago I started collecting Steelbook bluray editions which are often limited runs, have unique and exclusive artwork and usually do not lose their value.  Specialist companies such as Filmarena, Mantalab, Novamedia, Kimchidvd and some others also produce really great editions with art cards, lenticular covers, and other goodies.  Admittedly, some of these editions can be expensive, but they are definitely worth purchasing for your favourite films.  There is clear demand for these special editions too, as they usually sell out within hours of being released! Keep up the great work!” Brad -  I collect some, but more often than not I don’t like the artwork on most Steelbook releases as much as the normal cover art. But two that I have which I really like are Guardians of the Galaxy that looks like Peter Quill’s Walkman and Doctor Strange that looks like the Book of the Vishanti Chris – While I’m a huge fan of physical media, I don’t actually collect steelbooks.   Do any of you collect Steelbooks and what are the coolest ones you own? The story line is very “today” and extremely compelling.  Think Homeland Season 1 (sorry, the rest are trash).    Just was wondering and if I missed a discussion on it, I’d love to have the link.  Thanks!” Jason from Kuwait writes in “Good afternoon Peter.  Really enjoy the /film daily podcast, and the different personalities you and the crew bring to the show.   Hearing you recently discuss topics such as the difference between seeing movies at home or in the theatre, motion blurring, or adding reference modes to new TVs got me thinking that I have never really heard any of you explicitly say what you have for viewing setups at home (just the odd references here or there in general convos).   It might be interesting and give a little context to the above discussion to hear y'all directly address what you and the gang all currently use at home to view the majority of your TVs / Movies.  I am a regular listener, but I can't claim to have heard every show so apologies if you have discussed this before.  Again, enjoy the show. Thanks”   Other articles mentioned: ‘Dark Phoenix’ Trailer Breakdown: Jean Grey is a Girl on Fire ‘Jack Ryan’ Attempts Bring Tom Clancy’s CIA Analyst into the 21st Century, with Mixed Results   All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.  Halloween, James Wan, Birds of Prey, Star Wars, Aquaman, and Mail Bag Questions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:22

On the September 26, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to talk what the latest film and tv news, including Halloween, James Wann, Birds of Prey, Star Wars, Aquaman, and in the Mail Bag we’ll answer some of the reader e-mails.   You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it).   Opening Banter: Peter made the mistake of asking twitter for health advice.   In The News: Chris: ‘Halloween’ Box Office Tracking HT: James Wan to Produce ‘Train to Busan’ Remake From ‘The Nun’ Writer Gary Dauberman Chris: ‘Birds of Prey’ Cast Adds Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell HT: 'Star Wars: Vader Immortal' Trailer: ILMxLab Unveils David Goyer's Darth Vader VR Project Chris: Important News: ‘Aquaman’ Features Lots of Water Vomiting Scenes   In The Mail Bag: Lored in Worcester MA writes in “Hey guys. Love your podcast. Listen to it daily. I heard you guys talking about the new subtitle for the Girl in the Spider’s Web. I thought someone would have mentioned it by now, but this book is not part of the original trilogy that Stieg Larsson wrote. As you probably know, he passed away after completing the first three books. This is not a direct sequel to the Girl with a Dragon Tatoo. I wonder if Sony is trying to make sure people know it’s set in the same universe and not a stand alone movie. Anyways, that’s just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work.” Scott A from Alameda, CA writes in “Hey Gang -   I implore each of you to check out The Rider. It is a masterful film. While I did not connect with the subject matter as much as other films, the artistry of Chloe Zhao, her cinematographer, and editor are what truly elevate this film. Using a wonderful juxtaposition of wide shots to emphasize the emptiness of the South Dakota landscape with extreme close-ups touching upon the claustrophobia of Brady's tragic situation, the film highlighted the type of director that Zhao is. The Rider was in my top 5 at the half-year mark and while it may have since slipped down, it is definitely a film worth watching. I think Chris, especially, would love it.   A high recommend and I think Marvel hiring Zhao is an inspired choice.   Keep up the great work!” In response to our Predator episode:Prince from New York City writes in “I will agree that everything went downhill at the Cadillac commercial in the woods but your complaints seemed...looney.  Plot holes in a Predator movie? Really? We enjoyed the movie (except the final scene). It was fast and fun and dumb. You don't go to Applebees for fine dining. And you don't go to Predator movies thinking there will be no plot-holes.  Tighten up.” Jacob C from Mississippi writes “Peter,  I just listened to the predator spoiler episode and I cannot believe you were made fun of so much by how confused you were in the movie. I totally and completely agree with you on every point you made. The movie was edited extremely horribly and I couldn’t tell what was going on half the time. I shame Brad for making fun of you with a nerd voice. That was uncalled for
