More holiGAY movies, please! Also, prepare yourselves! The Hootenanny approaches! - Women and Words | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:01

Women and Words Overview 24-30 November 2018 Andi and Jove are gearing up for the annual Hootenanny event at Women and Words, which means they shut the blog down for around two weeks. Once the Hootenanny starts (Dec. 12), that’s all you get, is GIVEAWAYS OUT THE WAZOO! Andi spent some time this week back-and-forthing with KD Williamson (who is awesome; see below) while Jove seems to spend tons of time finding cool organizations to donate to.   24 Nov.: Women and Wordster Erin Saluta posted a few books whose characters are in law enforcement. And who doesn’t like a woman in (or out) of uniform? LOL Women and Words link HERE   25 Nov.: Author Randi Triant stopped by to chat about writing craft and writing characters that are vanquished—she’s working on re-doing the trope of characters making all the right choices and succeeding, because sometimes the right choices don’t mean you’ll succeed. Women and Words link HERE Randi Triant’s website   26 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster KD Williamson talked about being bullied in elementary school and the bond she forged with her sister. Women and Words link HERE KD Williamson’s website   27 Nov.: Author, Women and Wordster, and lesbian herstory legend Lee Lynch wrote about the things you can find when on a trip to the doctor. Women and Words link HERE More about Lee here   28 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Andi Marquette and Tucker the merry elf posted a reminder about the Women and Words annual Hootenanny (giant-ass book giveaway event) that starts Dec. 12 and goes through Dec. 23. Women and Words link HERE   29 Nov.: Authors and Women and Wordsters KD Williamson and Andi Marquette did a back-and-forth Q&A with each other, talking about  writing, diversity, and fanfic. Women and Words link HERE   30 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Andi Marquette lamented the lack of LGBTQ+ - themed holiday movies, and then pointed out a few bright spots. And Jove mentioned in the podcast the 2000 movie What’s Cooking. Women and Words link HERE Find Andi on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and her website   Jove and Andi remind people that this time of year can be hard on some, but find the bright spots in giving. Jove reminds people of the microloan site Kiva and Andi reminded people of Heifer International, which provides domestic animals to people in developing nations. Jove also brought up Laundry Love, which helps low-income and no-income people and families wash clothes and bedding by partnering with groups, schools, and local Laundromats. And she brought up Socks for Soldiers, in which people actually knit a pair of socks for an active-duty soldier. If you can’t knit, there are other ways to help.   And Jove would like everyone to know (because Andi doesn’t like to talk too much about accomplishments…lol)  that Andi’s holiday reboot of Dickens’ Christmas Carol, The Bureau of Holiday Affairs, was one of six LGBTQ+ holiday books included in a write-up in the “Happy Ever After” section of USA Today, under “Rainbow Trends.” Go see.   ALSO! Dirt Road Books is releasing the anthology Learning Curve. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Australian organization One Girl, which helps provide education for girls in Africa. So if you’re looking for a new read this holiday, and want to feel even better about where your money goes, we hope you consider buying it.

Anna Interviews Shamim Sarif - The Lesbian Review podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:07

Anna Interviews Shamim Sarif The Lesbian Review Podcast Anna is joined by Shamim Sarif today to talk about her movies, the stories behind them and she talks about her family and coming out.   The World Unseen by Shamim Sarif In 1950's South Africa, free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community, and the new apartheid-led government, by running a café with Jacob her “coloured” business partner. When she meets Miriam, a young wife and mother, their  unexpected attraction pushes Miriam to question the rules that bind her. When Amina helps Miriam’s sister-in-law to hide from the police, a chain of events is set in motion that changes both women forever.  The World Unseen transports us to a vibrant, colourful world, a world that divides white from black and women from men, but one that might just allow an unexpected love to survive.   Get This Movie On Amazon here -> https://amzn.to/2Dh4ZYw   I Can’t Think Straight Tala, a London-based Palestinian, is preparing for her elaborate Middle Eastern wedding when she meets Leyla, a young British Indian woman who is dating her best friend. Spirited Christian Tala and shy Muslim Leyla could not be more different from each other, but the attraction is immediate and goes deeper than friendship. But Tala is not ready to accept the implications of the choice her heart has made for her and escapes back to Jordan, while Leyla tries to move on with her new-found life, to the shock of her tradition-loving parents. As Tala's wedding day approaches, simmering tensions come to boiling point and the pressure mounts for Tala to be true to herself. Moving between the vast enclaves of Middle Eastern high society and the stunning backdrop of London's West End, I Can't Think Straight explores the clashes between East and West, love and marriage, conventions and individuality, creating a humorous and tender story of unexpected love and unusual freedoms.    Get This Movie On Amazon here -> https://amzn.to/2OF5sFI   Wrote the Book, Made the Movie, Raised the Kids, Now the Blog Modern women really can have it all – work, family, friends and fans – but having a sense of humour helps! Global Girl Project Interview with Julia Lynch Seize the Day Podcast   Welcome to Seize the Day Podcast with Natalie Miller-Snell.   In todays show I am incredibly fortunate to get to interview the very inspiring Julia Lynch, founder of Global Girl Project, a wonderful leadership exchange program for young women from developing countries.  Julia tells us about #travelling #nepal #capoeira #disney and how #globalgirlproject began.   One of the motivators for starting Seize the Day was to get inspirational women on the show, to talk through how they found success, what got them to the point they are at now, and why they do it, so I’m truly delighted to have Julia join me in this episode.  She is #makingadifference in the world.   Seize the Day was inspired by my favourite Latin expression Carpe Diem.  I’m very much a “glass is half full” person and I’ve had some great mentors throughout my life, who have offered me invaluable guidance.  We have so many wonders at our fingertips and sometimes we just need a little help, or someone to remind us.     Natalie Online Website:  www.seizethe-day.com Twitter: @natsnell Email:  nataliemillersnell@gmail.com Instagram: seizetheday_today   Julia Online You can contact Julia via email on Twitter on Facebook in Instagram     Did you know that you get exclusive content when you become a patron?
