Episode 38, we’re bringing back a mix from days gone by in our new 'Classics' segment of the Chromacast podcast. First up in this offshoot series is Kingpin, with a mix he did for the 'Interesting Times' podcast by Club Muse, that was wildly accepted at the time. For the past 8 years Brenden LaBonte (aka Forerunners) has been creating incredibly lush and emotive progressive music. With immaculate production and regular releases from labels such as Saturate Audio, Black Hole Recordings, Pure Trance, and Sudbeat, he is one of the producers who is helping to shape the sound of modern progressive music. Forerunners music is about the slow build, the journey, where filters ebb and flow, layers creep to the front then withdraw, where the percussion is hypnotic and the synths repetitive, and the melody draws the listener in with its subtlety, rather than a crass fanfare. It’s either early night material for big trance rooms, or peak time material for intelligent progressive floors – spun by DJs who know how to work a room. This is what progressive trance music is all about. At the age of 16, he discovered dance music and bought his 1st set of belt drive turntables. Gradually over the years, he progressed to direct drive, then CD decks, and is now fully digital, using Traktor hardware and software. Over the years his sounds have mellowed and his sets usually sit around 118 bpm. Trovarsi is a vocalist, pianist and producer. She has been producing for 9 years but over the last few began performing live as well. Markman is a producer and engineer, as well as a DJ for over 15 years. As the paths of these two crossed, it became apparent rather quickly that their similar work ethic and love for technology in music would blend perfectly to create a new way to perform. October 7th was a special night for Chromacast as we presented a piece of what was in our hearts to the Downtown LA community. We are incredibly grateful to all that came out. The vibe was palpable all night long thanks to you! Last week we were able to share Jeff Tovar’s incredible opening set. The heavy momentum from Tovar’s set catapulted the night forward. Jeff Devoe took the reigns after Tovar and laid down a mix of house, tech house and progressive house that kept the energy flowing. He released drum and bass under Devoe from 2004-2008 with Relentless Audio, a local LA based label started by himself, Dj Kingpin (also from Chromacast!), and Direct Feed. From 2009-2014 he released electro house as 1/2 of Oh Shit! Oh Shit! performed a semi-live dj set featuring live vocals from Sean Adams (lead) and Jeff Devoe (backup). All of Oh Shit!’s music can still be found on Beatport and will still shake your ass! More recently Jeff Devoe has become involved with Los Angeles Music Project (LAMP) and Puzl Records, releasing house and techno with them. He is also 1/3 of Chromacast, a Los Angeles based electronic music podcast focusing on releasing a variety of electronic music dj mixes from prominent local artists. Chromacast Sessions was last Saturday and what a special night it turned out to be. Our own little part of Downtown LA was filled with amazing tunes; old and new friends; visuals by Ian Kemp that kept us all in awe; and Purefilth Sound that was hitting all the right spots.
