In this second episode of "What Makes", Jeremiah Isley takes the time to talk to several figures in Game Design to see what all goes into the creation of a tabletop game. Enjoy!
If you haven't watched Hello Gregor, you are missing out. He was one of the first reviewers on the scene around 8 years ago, and from the get go, he had his own style and purpose. A whimsical genius, I have always wanted to pry into his mind and find out what makes him tick. I don't know if I figured that out, but I did have a good time talking to him regardless.
Stefan Risthaus has designed two of my favorite gams, Arkwright and Gentes. We managed to fight through the time zone differences and a little bit of clunky internet to have a talk about his history of gaming and his design process.
I welcome Anthony Racano into the virtual studio and the two of use take a little time to do an in depth review of Gentes from designer Stefan Risthaus. Gentes is the most recent game to be given the Deluxification treatment from TMG and you can back the Kickstarter to get your very own copy!
Michael and I sit down and talk over 2017 and what TMG accomplished and the things we are excited about in 2018.
James Felli is a good friend and co-host of the weekly podcast, The Alaboom. In his spare time, he is a devoted husband and father, research scientist, and designer and publisher of board games. He has created three titles under his company, Devious Weasel Games, and plans on a fourth for 2018 - all without the use of crowdfunding. He was kind enough to sit down and talk to me about his process, and the trials and tribulations he has faced with following his dream.
I remember my father taking me to the first movie when I was 6 years old and it was just about the most amazing thing I had ever seen, ever. With the new movie coming out, I roped in my good friend and fellow TMG employee Aaron to talk about the new movie, Star Wars in general, and even give some theories on some of the mysteries surrounding Episode 8.
I have known Chris Lefer for several years, and I consider him a dear friend, but somehow, I had never heard the origin story of how he came up with the idea for Roll for It! and his design process. He shares that with me now, along with sharing stories about what it is like to work in the board gaming industry.
For the second time, Daniel Hadlock will answer the questions of the TMG faithful. These questions were submitted to the podcast via Email, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. If you have a question for Daniel, please let us know, and make sure you use the #ASKTHEPRESIDENT to tag it!
The TMG Podcast - PAX Unplugged vs. BGG.CON with Anthony Racano - Episode 031
Michael Mindes recently picked up a game called My Story and he is ridiculously excited about it, and he wants you to be excited about it as well!
Anthony Racano is what I would call a good friend, and a friend that I would not have if it were not for the boardgame hobby. He hosts his own podcast, The Cardboard Jungle, but he was kind enough to join me for a long conversation about a myriad of topics, but mostly the boardgame hobby.
Head of development, Seth Jaffee, is sad he didn't get to go to Essen, but he is hoping to get his hands on a few choice games that have peaked his interest. He also talks about the three brand new games from TMG that released at Essen - Exodus Fleets, Harvest, and Pioneer Days.
Before he took off to Essen, Michael sat down with me last week to talk about the Downfall Kickstarter and what he has learned over the years with over 30 successful crowdfunding projects under his belt.
With the launch of the Downfall Kickstarter imminent, John D. Clair took some time out of his schedule to talk to us here at TMG about where his inspiration for Downfall came from, and how the design has changed over the years as he worked on it.
