In Aug 2016, he launched the first IMAX cinema in West Africa, in Lekki Lagos, Nigeria, complete with Signature Dine-in cinema offerings. In 1991, Kene began his career in the film industry as General Manager with Odeon UK. When he returned to Nigeria in 2008, as managing director, he set up and launched Genesis Deluxe Cinemas. He was also the managing director and ceo of FilmAFRICA UK, a production & distribution company that specialized in releasing African films in mainstream UK cinemas.
