 A NO-HITTER FOR ALL TIME | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 695

It was a cool night in Houston on May 1, 1991, a, good night for baseball, but a rough night for pitcher Nolan Ryan . His back was stiff, and every bone was killing him. Heck, at age 44, very few guys were still playing major league baseball, much less pitching, which takes a terrible toll on arms. He didn't know he was about to cement a record in major league baseball that will probably last forever.   THEY CALL IT "THE STREAK" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1544

1001 Stories For The Road takes a fond look back at April 26th, 1974, the day music artist Ray Stevens released his new hit record "The Streak" , "Streaking", or the act of running through public places naked, was taking take in record numbers on college campuses and even at that year's Academy Awards ceremony. The 70's are remembered for disco dancing, 8-track tapes, CB radio, the Jackson Five...and streaking. To many, the crazy 70's will remain forever in memory of those who were around to enjoy it, at least so I hear.  REMEMBERING THE BLUES BROTHERS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 733

On April 22,1978, Saturday Night Live's Paul Schaffer announced an R&B act featuring two unknown blues artists, Joliet Jake E.Blues and Elwood J Blues- who went by the name The Blues Brothers. When the live audience saw them run out to the stage, they instantly recognized Dan Akroyd and John Belushi, and for one short moment the crowd, and millions of tv viewers, thought that a comedy act was going to follow. But their driving performance of "Hey, Bartender", with a first class band behind them, left no doubt that The Blues Brothers was here for good. It was a big moment in their careers, and for all those who witnessed that performance and the many to come, it was America's Best of Times.  FREEDOM WINS ONE IN TROY, N.Y. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 781

On April 27th, 1850, the Vigilante Committee in Troy, New York, prevented a Sheriff and a Slave Catcher from extraditing one of their own, a runaway slave named Charles Nalle, who had made his escape north in 1848 through the Underground Railway to what he hoped was freedom and the chance for a new life. Blacks and whites combined in a number of dangerous efforts to free Nalle that day, and they succeeded in doing so, scoring one small step for freedom in a turbulent time for America. The citizens of Troy later raised today's equivalent of $14,000 to buy Nalle's freedom.
