Massimiliano Fuksas’s 40-year-long career has earned him several awards and distinctions, including the prestigious career achievement award “Vitruvio International a la Trayectoria”. Visiting Professor at a number of universities, regular contributor to the weekly magazine “L’Espresso” and director of the VII Venice Architecture Biennale (1998/2000), Mr. Fuksas’ projects span continents, from Paris to Shangai, as well as building typologies. For many years he has been devoting special attention to the study of the urban problems in large metropolitan areas.

Stefan Sagmeister’s key note presentation delivered on Thursday September 15 2005 at ExperimentaDesign2005 – Bienal de Lisboa, Portugal Lisbon Conferences, Centro Cultural de Belém A native of Austria, Sagmeister received his MFA in graphic design from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and, as a Fulbright Scholar, a master’s degree from Pratt Institute in New York. He formed the New York based Sagmeister Inc. in 1993 and has since designed graphics and packaging for the Rolling Stones, Talking Heads and Lou Reed. Having been nominated five times for the Grammies he finally won one for the Talking Heads boxed set. He also earned won most international design awards. In 2001 a best selling monograph about his work titled “made you look”was published by Booth-Clibborn editions. Solo shows on Sagmeister Inc s work have been mounted in Zurich, Vienna, New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Osaka, Prague, Cologne and Seoul. Stefan has always worked hard to keep the studio small (currently himself, Matthias Ernstberger and one intern). He lectures extensively on all continents.

Rudy Vanderlans presents a biography of Emigre magazine: Emigre, Inc. is a digital typefoundry and publisher of graphic design related software and printed materials based in Northern California. Founded in 1984, coinciding with the birth of the Macintosh, Emigre was one of the first independent type foundries to establish itself centered around personal computer technology. Emigre holds exclusive license to over 200 original typeface designs created by a roster of contemporary designers. Their library of highly idiosyncratic fonts is recognized to represent one of the most significant trends in the development of typeface design of the past decade. Emigre’s full line of typefaces, ornaments and illustrations is available in Type 1 Postscript and TrueType for both the Macintosh and PC. Emigre’s designs have won numerous awards; Emigre is the 1994 recipient of the prestigious Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design and the 1996 Publish Magazine Impact Award.
