On  this weeks episode we're talking about all you can do in Wichita for a weekend. My recent trip to Wichita included a visit to WAM, the Wichita Art Museum where we enjoyed the Dale Chihuly installation, Confetti chandelier; the Gordon Parks exhibit,  Back to Fort Scott; and the many beautiful paintings that are part of the museums permanent collection. A walk along the river to see the Keeper of the Plains sculpture; a great lunch at The Old Tasty Mill soda fountain; a visit to the Aviation Museum all made for a great weekend destination . In the Campfire Chat I talk about tire safety and things to look for when evaluating your tires lifespan. On this weeks show my guest is Holly Boros, North Carolina Concealed Carry Instructor. Holly gives great tips on personal safety for women and on responsible gun ownership. Every solo woman traveler should have a personal safety plan. I also review the details of a new Camp Like A Girl trip - Paint Like a Girl with Mary Gregory! Mary is a west Texas artist who is doing a workshop for all levels of painting ability!    

On this week's episode I share the inspirational stories of the women who are making the Girl Camping world a better place to live. Behind the scenes act of kindness and encouragement are happening everyday and lives are brighter and campier because of them. On this week's show my guest is Ginny McKinney. Ginny is a solo woman RV traveler and she will be answering listener questions about traveling alone in an RV. Ginny was my guest on episode 5 of the podcast where she talked about the loss of her husband Dan and how traveling with the sisters on the fly helped her to learn the ropes of RV travel. Ginny writes a blog on travel and navigating widowhood on Facebook called Marshmallow Ranch. On this week's show, Matt Baker, Superintendent of Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, West Virginia gives us an insider's view on the most visited park in the state. He talks about the many hats he wears as the Superintendent and what his favorite job perk is. Janine also discusses her trip to Blackwater Falls and the surrounding area including her meeting with local pottery artist, Ben Nelson. Ben will be "throwing"  the new Girl Camper coffee mugs on his wheel in his shop, "MUD"  in Thomas, WV. Listener emails are also answered.

I'm going to break it down for girl campers and give some food for thought.  Before you make a big purchase you might want to ask yourself a few questions; How many people will be using it? This  week's episode is all about encouragement for the Girl Camper wannabe. I interview Mary Morey who shares with us how she went from being too frightened to tow a trailer to a proficient Girl Camper who has traveled thousands of miles and now mentors other women. Mary's journey will inspire any woman wanting to join the movement to overcome her fears and join the fun. I also chat about the second annual Get in Gear Fest which is a consortium of the Outdoor Gear Builders of Western North Carolina. This event will be held in Asheville, NC at the Smoky Mountain Adventure Center on May 19th. In the Girl Camper News Roundup I share the story of  Norma who at age ninety years declined treatment for cancer and instead chose to sell her house and spend the last years of her life visiting the National Parks and seeing America the Beautiful.

On this week's show I will be talking about ways to save on camping costs. Although camping is a great way to stretch your vacation dollar there are a few  things you can do to stretch your budget to allow for even more camping. A checklist is included to help you make sure you have everything you need before heading out on the road. I also chat about the town of Granville, Tennessee. Chris also talks about what  the company has in the pipeline and why Go Little Guy is the largest seller of tear drop trailers in the world. I this weeks episode we are talking about the pros and cons of new and vintage travel trailers. Some Girl Campers wouldn't have anything but vintage and others would only do new. My travel buddy Carol and I discuss our own experiences with vintage trailer ownership and why we would both consider jumping ship. There is also some encouragement in our Camp Fire chat along with the announcement of our latest trip, Paint Like a Girl. On this weeks episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Laurrie Pottiger and Hope Midock from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy office in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia on all things AT. How the trail is maintained and who does all that work along with the AT lingo. What's a SOBO and a NOBO and what is trail magic? This 2100 mile National Scenic Trail is a national treasure and if you are anywhere on the Eastern seaboard, part of it is right in your backyard. I also chatted about the difference between "ST",  Special Trailer tires, and "LT",  Light Truck, tires and the debate about whether "ST" tires are absolutely necessary on your travel trailer.
