We are encouraged to speak softly and politely when calling people to Allah so that people might take heed, an example of this is when Allah commanded Musa to speak politely to one of the most arrogant people (Firaun) to have trodden the earth. As Muslims, we are to save ourselves from hell by being among people who prostrate in forgiveness and not be arrogant when it comes to prostration (Salah). True believers are not intimidated to give up their faith because of threats and what people will think about them. One of the secrets of having sustenance is prayer, so keep praying and Allah will increase your sustenance. Save yourself from miserable life and being resurrected blind by not turning away from the reminder (Quran). We were reminded in this episode how all messengers of Allah called to Him in their time of needs and He answered them, so we should learn to lean on Allah, He is sufficient for us and the best disposer of our affairs. Dear brothers and sisters don’t let your bad deeds over shadow your good deeds and be among the losers on the D day by seeking a lot of forgiveness. Do not be among those who worship Allah on edge, that is they are happy and turn to Him when they are happy but Turn their back on their faith when they are being tested. In this interesting episode of save yourself series we were reminded that gratitude is not all about utterances but most importantly in changing our sinful ways to adopting Allah's commands. We should thank Allah to be protected from sins, to achieve the pleasure of Allah, to increase our sustenance, and to avoid Allah’s severe punishments and wraths. Working only for dunya is not enough, marry the dunya and akhira for you to be saved from the great torment. Do not let Shaitan deceive you into committing sins because he will absolve himself on the day of judgement. Never fall into the category of people who argue about doing the lawful things but commit sins in a whim. My dear brothers and sisters ponder on the gifts Allah has given you and you will never finish counting the favours He has bestowed upon you, so why can you not show gratitude by observing your Salah at least. Do not wait till the day you will ask Allah to send you back to the earth for you to do good deeds but it will be too late. Let Allah look after you by memorizing the Quran because He has promised to protect the Quran therefore automatically protecting the memorizer. Don’t lose hope because you think you are too old to memorize it, remember that many companions of the prophet(S.A.W) memorized the Quran when they were above 40years. Suratu Yusuf is the beginning surah of this episode where Allah brought to light the forgiveness of Yusuf towards his brothers. Allah is telling us to learn the spirit of forgiveness and stay away from grudges. Learn to forgive others and the Most Merciful will also forgive your sins. Do not be upset when people choose the path of Allah for what is better than that? Be a celebrity in heaven that angels are familiar with rather than celebrity in life that is a stranger to the angels. You get upset when people are against the prophet (S.A.W) when your whole life is against his teachings, that is you don’t pray, don’t dress appropriately, don’t give up music etc. and you say the belief is in your heart. Don’t break Allah’s covenant by disobeying Him . Solve your family dispute and seek calmness in remembering Allah. Save yourself from failure through gratitude and patience. Prophet Yusuf’s story (alaihi salaam) started in this episode. The lessons in this Surah are so enormous and Mufti has given us the summary for us to ponder on and make use of in our daily lives. The first lesson which is the opening of the Surah is to learn to be secretive about one’s affairs contrary to announcing all you blessings which is what is common nowadays on Facebook, twitter, Instagram etc. Because Shaitan is bad and makes people do unacceptable things, he clouds them with jealousy, envy even when they didn’t want to be mean, but if you don’t display your affair, he can’t tempt them, learn from Yusuf’s story and hide your blessings for that is better for you, because not everybody is happy with your happiness. Everybody is capable of lying even children, so verify any tale and don’t spread rumour that will destroy the honour of a fellow being. Yusuf (alaihi salaam) was a happy child and accepted Allah’s decree because he was convinced of Allah’s help. He preferred to be in jail rather than disobey Allah by committing adultery. He was punished for a sin that he didn’t commit and did not for once blame Allah or black magic. He kept worshipping Him and even calling people to Allah in jail. This episode starts with prophet Musa’s story which is the story repeated most in the Quran. He was patient with the one who used to call himself god (Pharaoh). He was patient for a long time despite his oppression until he finally supplicated to Allah against him (Pharaoh). The lesson here is fear the supplication of people you have wronged against you for there is no barrier between that supplication and Allah. Allah has declared war against people who harm His friends and you don’t know if the person you have oppressed is His friends, so be careful and do not oppress. Furthermore, pray, be patient and steadfast and Allah will guide you, like he guided Musa (alaihi salaam) through the sea. Don’t let money and power cloud you judgement be humble not arrogant with these blessings and tests from Allah if you don’t want to be destroyed like Pharaoh.  Seek Allah’s forgiveness as long as you are alive and not at the point of death for He does not accept repentance at the point of gargarah. The story of prophet Nuh (alaihi salaam) was also mentioned, his patience, mockery, his child’s disobedience to the message, and Allah’s wrath on his people. Mufti reminded us the importance of salutation upon the prophet, his wives and companions at the beginning of this episode. The reason Allah repeats things in the Quran is to remind the benefits to those who believe, therefore do not be irritated with these reminders rather be honoured about them. Don’t be among the people who make dua when they need something from Allah and forgets after He has answered the dua like they never called to Him. Know that Allah tests the worshippers He love for them to be closer to Him. This episode is loaded with many lessons as usual, so take a bit of your time and benefit your soul to save yourself from hell. Fulfilling Salah is more than the physical act, so concentrate in your Salah. Qualities of a hypocrite: he lies, he breaks promises, he betrays trust, explode during debates, so beware of them. Believers are protectors of one another therefore have duties to other believers like encouraging them to do good deeds and discouraging them from bad deeds. Follow Muhammad (S.A.W) like Allah said in the Quran and do not be deceived by hypocrites. Always remember our brothers and sisters suffering around the globe in your prayers, May Allah ease their difficulties. The reasons we have failed as a Ummah are dispute and disunity. Allah Himself has told Muslims to obey Him and His messenger and avoid dispute for us to be successful. If not we will become unsuccessful and our power will be lost. Just look at the Muslims in the world today and you will see the truth in Allah’s statement. The non believers have strength because they are protectors of one another. War is not required of Muslims. We were taught to always lean towards peace, accept hands stretch in peace and lean on Allah; if they want to cheat you then Allah is sufficient for you. Islam does not teach violence. When enemies accept Islam they automatically become your brothers and Allah forgive their sins. Be careful and do not let your love for family and wealth exceed your love for Allah if you don’t want calamity to strike you.
