Recorded before, during, and after the Cloudland Canyon 50k in Georgia we tackle important issues, like what old people watch on TV, running in kilts, Sean's career as the morning announcement guy in High School and so much more. Enjoy.
What is race week life for a Race Director? Sean gives us an inside look. We are also joined by Peter Ripmaster who just finished the Arrowhead 135 in Minnesota and is preparing for a 1000 mile Ultra in Alaska that you may have never heard of but it could be the toughest footrace on Planet Earth. We talk about those races, training for them when you live in North Carolina and just life in general.
We talk about what to do when you come across an injured person in a race and the time that Sean was in a Metal band. Then Greg Armstrong join us. He is the man behind the Run4water charity and quite possibly the most fascinating man in Tennessee. We talk his wins at Vol State, switching from triathlons to Ultras, his unusual eating habits and the crazy story of what happen to him the last time he said a curse word, which was four year ago.
Do you plan out your year, or do you just wing it? We also talk to Rhea Loney about her recent 130 mile Fat Ass through Louisiana and what to do when you kids ask you about the number 69.
Fresh off his win at HURT 100 Avery Collins joins me from the beach to talk his race, his year, and his passion.
Sean talks about getting a missile attack text on his phone in Hawaii, we cover the ultra cheating story that is all over the news, then we talk to Margaret Webber-Smith and ultra runner from Maryland who used running as a way to get back after a scary medical diagnosis. We had some phone issues with the line from Hawaii, I tried to pull the tin can and string tighter but it did no good.
We are joined by Matt Fober a runner originally from Cleveland who moved to Hawaii. Many years ago he let some stranger called the Run Bum sleep on his couch and the encounter would forever change both men. We also talk to Jason Green about registration opening up Friday for the Yeti 100 and a new recovery tool.
Beast Series and Hellgate 100k winner Matt Thompson joins us to talk about his year, then we get a little side tracked with why Sean hates Christmas, LL Cool J lyrics and cold weather gear.
Ryan, Sean, Jason Green and Jeff Stafford take your calls from all over the Beast Coast!
Steve Barber won the Chattanooga 100 then waited for his girlfriend Joy Martin to cross the line because he had a ring in his pocket and was ready to propose. We talk to Steve and Joy about the big day and finding love on the trails.
Brought the recorder along with me as I crewed and paced a friend at the Chattanooga 100. Beer, expensive salads, gongs, diva cups, Sean's Dad, and all the craziness you need to get you through your run.
Remember your first Ultra? In this episode we talk about our first ultras and talk with Patty Dye about her first Ultra that she ran after listening to our "Couch To 50k" episode. Remember if you can run a half marathon, you can run a 50k!
Mike Brake and Toni Lawrimore join us to talk about their the dreaded DNF's that they have faced while running and we chat a bit about Thanksgiving. Gobble gobble.
Camille Herron joins us to talk about setting the new World Record for fastest 100 miler at the Tunnel Hill 100 in Vienna Il. We also talk about her love of chasing animals, beer, and junk food.
I took a handheld recorder out to the Pinhoti 100 miler in Alabama and talked to some folks at the race up until mile 41 where I kicked into crew and pacer mode. This is really a different podcast from what we usually do but I hope you enjoy it. Listen for Karl and Cheryl Meltzer, Liz Canty, Aaron Saft, Anthony Nasser, Kurt Schilling, Jason Green and even Jackie Merrit and even the Blanton.
