I have had the privilege of working with some incredible people in my career, people who are inspired to make this world a better place. Many of those people are women. Doctors, Inventors, CEOs, Entrepreneurs, Scientists, Astronauts, Writers these are just a few of the professions these women belong to. Yet, not matter how many women I meet who have worked hard to be in these leadership roles, I meet just as many women who believe they could never hold these positions. In the 21st Century why is it still so difficult for women to believe they are valued and that they deserve success? How can we lift each other up to redefine possible? Robb was the victim of a serious auto accident, a head on collision with a semi truck. He was found with a fractured skull and pronounced dead by first responders. But by the time the ambulance had arrived at the scene to take his body to the hospital, Robb’s pulse had miraculously returned. After a difficult recovery, and despite significant physical and emotional scars, Robb was left with a new outlook on life. He started a band as a way to leverage the power of music to share his philosophy, and soon had songs in the Canadian Top 10. Robb saw musical success as a platform from which to influence and motivate young people. He put aside performing to large audiences, and began speaking to youth in their schools across the country, playing his songs and sharing their meaning with his young audiences. Robb and his band bring their presentation to more than 200 schools each year, and have reached over 1 million students to date through school shows and social media. He walks head on into difficult topics, knowing that these are the things on young people’s minds; bullying, addiction, self harm and suicide.

I have always been interested in the topic of Aliens and if we have ever been visited by these other worldly creatures. When I had the opportunity to interview Chad C. Meek, who’s family was instrumental in the 1950’s U.F.O movement, I was interested in finding out more about his experiences. Chad is the nephew of George Van Tassel  the famous alien contactee who held the first ongoing spacecraft conventions in the high desert at a place called Giant Rock, and who also coined the term “channeling” to distinquish this form of communication from that used by spirit mediums. I never expected to find out in our interview that my son’s vision of heaven was the vision that Chad had in a near death experience. In 2009, after the Global Financial Crisis wiped out Peter Alessandria’s law business. He decided to give up being an attorney in order to do what he loved: photography. Interviewing someone about the suicide attempt and what happens after is one of the ways that I hope to help bring awareness to Mental Health & Wellness that so many of us struggle with in silence. Nancy Virden’s story of how she found the light within during her dark night of the soul is so inspiring because she speaks a truth that so many of us experience but either can find the words, don’t have the support to say or haven’t found the courage to come forward for fear of being ridiculed. It’s stories like Nancy’s, who captures it so eloquently in her book titled, Called to Live: A Chronicle of Recovery After Attempted Suicide, that paves the way for education and ally-ship around mental illness.

There are a lot of terms we use in the spiritual community that explain our various stages of growth and development. One of those terms is experiencing a “shift.” These shifts come to us continually as life lessons where something within us changes and we often have a shift in consciousness. Instead of saying that “shit happens” we joke amongst each other that “shift happened,” because truthfully the emotions attached to these expressions often feel one in the same. What do you do when you are faced with a life challenge that you don’t understand and has all of the characteristics of adversity? How do you learn from it? If you lean into the adversity how does it change your outlook? How do we become experts in shovelling the shift?  Tricia Carr is an author and Healing Artist in Los Angeles, CA.
