VOX Podcast with Mike Erre show

VOX Podcast with Mike Erre

Summary: In October of 2015, Mike Erre launched the VOX Podcast upon a season of struggling with the church's efforts to represent who Jesus is, what he's done, and what he is doing on this earth today. Committed to Talk About Anything, Mike quickly engaged into many of culture's most challenging conversations around the LGBTQ community, American politics, church politics, and Christian culture's catastrophe of marginalizing the very people that Jesus himself would associate with.  240 - Wake Up Dead Man: God is Not in Control, part 2 - with Tim Gombis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:38:23

This week we give you part 2 with Tim Gombis! Together Mike, Bonnie and Tim sit down with Gombis to discuss if God is actually in control or if we read this (and other) doctrine into the text. If you haven’t already listened, we encourage you to listen to part one that began when Tim Gombis wrote a blog post asserting that God may not actually be in control. The arc of topics in these two episodes include God’s omniscience, the Church and the implications of control, the role of the Bible in our life of faith, and if it’s permissible to read doctrine into the Text. This is part 2 of a 4 part series in which we will do an outdo on many of the major topics discussed in this series.  239 - God is Not in Control, part 1 - with Tim Gombis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:44:06

The one and only Tim Gombis is in the house today! On a recent blog post, Mr. Gombis asserted that “God is not control”, which spurred on many questions, arguments, disagreements and the like. On today’s episode, we are discussing what he meant by this statement, if the Bible actually tells us that God is in control, and what we learn about ourselves from holding tightly to this theological statement. We realize that many questions may arise from this conversation which is why this is only Part 1 of our conversation. We will not only follow up with a part 2 but have a series of podcasts along similar topics and we will follow up with one, long episode about all of it. However, if you have pressing questions, thoughts or ideas, please email us at hello@voxpodcast.com If you want to read Tim’s blog post in it’s totality, you can find it here: https://timgombis.com Learn more about the VOX Podcast: www.voxpodcast.com Subscribe on iTunes - apple.co/1Lla1Nj Support the VOX Podcast on Patreon: www.patreon.com/voxpodcast Follow us on Instagram: @voxpodcast Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/voxpodcast Follow Mike on Twitter: www.twitter.com/mikeerre Music in this episode by Timothy John Stafford www.timothyjohnstafford.com Instagram & Twitter: @GoneTimothy

 238 - Jesus Was Jewish - with Dr. Amy-Jill Levine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:14:10

Today we sit down with Dr Amy-Jill Levine, professor and world renowned scholar for her work in New Testament Studies. AJ (as she affectionally insists we call her!) is the author of over ten books about Jesus and his Jewish background. AJ brings an authentic knowledge of Judaism in the first century, as well as her own Jewish heritage to inform her writings. In this interview, Mike and Tim converse with AJ all about the essential Jewishness of Jesus and why it matters to an accurate understanding of the text. With wit and humor, AJ dispels some misconceptions about Judaism and how often a good picture of Jesus is built upon a poor view of Judaism. AJ demonstrates how this is not only unnecessary, but calls into question one’s own Christology.
