Jeff Rasley on Trump, Social Media and Polarization! - The Frederic Bye Show | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:55

In the US, our body politic is suffering from a sickness. Political polarization has become so extreme it has spawned violence against and by politicians. A new syndrome, "post-election stress disorder", is recognized by psychologists. Instead of trying to lower the temperature, the media, politicians, and political action committees (PACs) stoke the angry passion of extremism. Social media has contributed to this culture of outrage. It is polluted by the rantings of bigots, trolls, and terrorists. Fear-mongering politicians use it to widen social, economic, and ideological divisions. Social media could be a medium for civil discussions about political issues, but the temptation to respond impulsively and angrily has made politics even more toxic. It's just easier to rant and vent or hide out in like-minded silos. Is there any possibility of a cure for the sickness of our body politic? Facebook is the largest forum in the history of humankind for free and open communication among citizens. As is demonstrated in Jeff Rasley's latest book "regular folks" can use their social networks for civil discussion and debate, and then for positive political action. Whatever our political leaning, we need not imitate President Trump by tweeting insults and ridicule at political opponents. Who do we want to be as a nation? "The Case for Civility" exposes the causes and effects of hyper-partisanship. It offers a "modest proposal" to treat the symptoms of toxic polarization at the grassroots level. An experiment Rasley conducted in Facebook based on the values of civility, tolerance, pragmatism, and moderation proves we can cure what ails us. Jeff Rasley is the author of 9 other books, including "Godless - Living a Valuable Life beyond Beliefs" and "Bringing Progress to Paradise", a memoir about adventure and philanthropy in the Nepal Himalayas.

Maura Sweeney - Angry or Aspiring to Love? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:15:47

You might not be dealing with anger, but you could easily find yourself in the negative emotional zone known as fear. Fear is the opposite of peace; it’s the antithesis of love. By its very nature, fear separates us from the awareness of peace, security, happiness and so many more positive, life-affirming emotions. In this latest podcast, I share a personal story from my background. Busting the myth of the “perfect childhood,” I talk about a weakness in my own household that left me feeling fearful. That fear caused me to self-protect and create my own wall of emotional isolation. Ultimately, those suppressed feelings found their outlet in a dramatic moment of anger, one that needed to be addressed in a helpful rather than harmful way. Come along with me on my journey. I convey the surprising role of love in dissipating negative emotions and paving a path to the awareness of love, grace and peace. Your experiences with negative, fear-based emotions may arise from a variety of sources. This podcast will help you remove some of your own barriers to love and free you to enjoy greater happiness and well-being. Finally, listen in as Jenny from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts who shares with us what makes her happy from the inside out, too. #Miracles #Alcoholism #Forgiveness #Peace #Wellbeing

Inspirational Monday! - Trust that God will give you the increase | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:08:29

Hey guys! Today, the show is inspired by a conversation I had with Mark Thurston on his latest book, Discovering Your life's purpose. Mark's work is based on Edgar Cayce's work, he basically re-edited the book. In the book, he talks about trusting that God will give you the increase when you follow your life's mission. Let's face it, the reason most of us don't go after what we really want is the fear of lacking money - the rent, the mortgage, the kids, our lifestyle... Mark has some fascinating words on this subject. Enjoy the podcast! With purpose, passion, and love, Fred

Meredith Mast - co-author of ‘Willow Rose Learns Honesty’ on The Frederic Bye Show! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:07

Today we're talking to a children's author! Meredith Mast is the co-author of ‘Willow Rose Learns Honesty’... Meredith Mast has been performing, studying, and teaching classical ballet for over 40 years. At the age of 17, Meredith was accepted into the Houston Ballet where she danced professionally for five years. Upon retiring from the Houston Ballet, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, Meredith pursued a career in human resources and also began teaching classical ballet. After moving to Madison with her husband in 1999, and wanting to work specifically with children, she designed a ballet program for ages 3-9 called Storybook Ballet. The program incorporates classical ballet instruction with costumes, props, music, drama, and children’s stories. After teaching children for 17 years, and also having four children of her own, Meredith decided to write her own children’s stories to incorporate into her ballet school. With the help of her mother, Marvia Korol, they began writing a series of children’s books that were creative, concise, and colorful…each focusing on a particular virtue. Their first book, Chloe Learns Patience, is about a caterpillar that must learn and practice the virtue of patience while waiting to blossom into a butterfly. Their next three books highlight the virtues of honesty, responsibility, and kindness. Three of their four books have been successfully “brought to life” with dancing, costumes, and music at her ballet school- with much delight to her students!! Meredith’s passion is teaching and working with children. She and her mother hope that their books will find their way into homes, schools, preschools, community centers, and other dance schools. Meredith resides in beautiful North Freedom, Wisconsin, with her husband and four boys. Here's a brief synopsis of her latest book: Willow Rose is lonely in her new garden. The flowers and the insects don’t want to be friends with her, fearful of her thorns. Then one day she tells a lie to a grasshopper. When she realizes that not being honest hurts, Willow Rose must learn to tell the truth no matter what. In practicing the virtue of Honesty, Willow Rose makes a friend and this, in turn, brings happiness. 'Willow Rose Learns Honesty' is part of SOOPLLC series entitled Storybook Virtues.

Maura Sweeney - Are You A Person Of Integrity? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:15:36

Are you a person of integrity? In this latest podcast, I take up the definitions of integrity. Not only do they include honesty and moral uprightness, but definitions for integrity speak to a person’s state of being “whole” or undivided. There are many ways in which our sense of being “whole” or “undivided” impacts our thoughts and intentions about ourselves and others. In particular, when we see ourselves as divided rather than part of the whole of society, we can lose our peace and compromise the expression of our higher self. Listen in as I share a few anecdotes and hear an apt, famous quote on the topic. Then, expect to be challenged to check into your own relationship with integrity. May you find your vision expanding, your consciousness growing and your ability to become a person of integrated character adding to your happiness and the betterment of the world. Finally, listen to Ally, a university student from Cape Cod, Massachusetts as she shares what makes her happy from the inside out, too. #Character #Spirituality #Society #Happiness #Peace #Justice

The Frederic Bye Show - Special episode on the Law of Attraction! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:16:37

This is a special episode! We have been hearing a lot online and offline about the Law of Attraction. Even Oprah Winfrey is a believer in it. However, many people want to believe but just can't seem to get it to work or don't know how to work. Well I'm here to show you how to!

Maura Sweeney - Where is Your Reality? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:58

I recorded this latest podcast at a park rather than from my familiar, sound-controlled closet. The change-up of venues was prompted by yet another day marked by upsetting “news” reports. Such ever-escalating, emotionally charged reports are fostering fear and division not only among the U.S. populace; they’re threatening the equilibrium of people in several Western European countries, too. The intoxicating and reality-shifting power of hyper-sensationalized news had prompted me to reclaim my reality and source. I found it anew while enjoying nature and quietude, even as I’d invited listeners to do the same. In this podcast, hear me share a vivid childhood impression of “reality.” Next, listen as I convey some recent impressions of how people interact in more natural, everyday settings when there is no “news” to narrate the dialogue or to artfully frame the supposed problems. If you’ve felt challenged by negative reports from external news, discover reflections, encouragement and a few empowerment tips. Find your reality and your peace from a more reliable source than the ever-shifting news: find it within you. Then, listen in to my former college friend Patty Hall as she shares what makes her happy from the inside out, too. #Empowerment #FakeNews #Peace #Happiness #Faith #Division #Spirituality
