FOX’s The Grinder: Is This Rob Lowe Comedy Worth Watching? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:23

In this episode we preview FOX’s new comedy The Grinder. It stars Rob Lowe (Parks & Recreation, The West Wing), Fred Savage (The Wonder Years), William Devane (24: Live Another Day), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Natalie Morales (Trophy Wife, The Middleman). The Grinder is a about two brothers. One who has always been in the spotlight, as an actor who played TV’s most popular lawyer who has come home to take stock of his life and the choices he has made. The other is a real-life, small-town attorney who has yet to really find his spotlight and could use a little spark in his life. Will they be able to help each other find what is missing in their lives? The Grinder is one of my favorite new comedies for Fall 2015. But, given some of the behind the scenes machinations, we will have to see if it lives up to the fun “Pilot” episode. Watch the Trailer for The Grinder Will you be checking out FOX’s The Grinder when it premieres Tuesday, September 29th following the series premiere of Grandfathered? You can hear my opinion and overview in the audio above. Listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

FOX’s Grandfathered: Is This John Stamos Comedy Worth Watching? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:34

In this episode we preview FOX’s new comedy Grandfathered. It stars John Stamos (Necessary Roughness, Full House), Josh Peck (Drake & Josh), Paget Brewster (Community, Criminal Minds) and Christina Milian (East Los High). Grandfathered is the story of a successful restaurateur, perpetual bachelor and man-about-town that is used to being the most suave and best looking single guy in the room, even though he is 50. But, everything changes for him when he learns he not only has an adult son, but a granddaughter to boot. Will he be able to change some things about his life and fit them into it? Grandfathered gets off to a rough start, but the cast is good and the premise has potential. Plus, it pairs up nicely with The Grinder. Watch the Trailer for Grandfathered Will you be checking out FOX’s Grandfathered when it premieres Tuesday, September 29th to lead off the night? You can hear my opinion and overview in the audio above. Listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews ABC’s Quantico | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:22

In this episode we preview ABC’s new mystery drama Quantico. It stars Priyanka Chopra, Jake McLaughlin (Believe), Yasmine Al Massri (Crossbones), Johanna Braddy (UnREAL), Tate Ellington (The Mindy Project), Graham Rogers (Revolution), Aunjanue Ellis (The Book of Negroes) and Mark Pellegrino (The Tomorrow People, Lost). Quantico is about a diverse group of recruits that has arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, the brightest and the most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of being behind the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11. Quantico is one of the best bets of Fall 2015. Watch the Trailer for Quantico Things Mentioned on the Podcast * Priyanka Chopra Movies & Music that made her a big star in India. * Episode of TV Madness With @mekeishamadto that I was a guest on, where we talked about Quantico among other new shows for Fall 2015.  theTVaholic Previews ABC’s Blood & Oil | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:00

It stars Don Johnson (Nash Bridges, Miami Vice), Chase Crawford plays (Gossip Girl), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Red Band Society), Amber Valletta (Legends, Revenge), Scott Michael Foster (Chasing Life, Greek), India de Beaufort (Jane By Design) and Delroy Lindo (The Chicago Code). Blood & Oil is about a young couple that seeks to start anew, so they move to “The Bakken” in North Dakota, which is booming after the largest oil discovery in American history. And, the people they meet there. Blood & Oil looks good on the surface, but is there anything beneath it? Watch the Trailer for Blood & Oil Things Mentioned on the Podcast Going to See the Elephant by Blood & Oil co-creator Rodes Fishburne.  theTVaholic Previews NBC’s The Player | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:21

In this episode we preview NBC’s new actioner The Player. It stars Wesley Snipes (Blade films), Philip Winchester (Strike Back), Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall) and Damon Gupton (Empire). The Player is an action-packed Las Vegas-set thriller that revolves around the pit boss and the dealer for a high-stakes game, where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on the ability of the player to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from taking place. Can the newest player take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true that the house always wins. The Player looks to have lots of big and fun action set pieces, but will there be more to it than that? Watch the Trailer for The Player Will you be checking out NBC’s The Player when it premieres Thursday, September 24th following the premiere of Heroes Reborn? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews NBC’s Heroes Reborn | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:19

In this episode we preview NBC’s new event series Heroes Reborn. It stars Jack Coleman back as Noah “HRG” Bennet. Others that will appear at some point during the 13-episode run are Masi Oka’s Hiro, Greg Grunberg’s Matt Parkman, Sendhil Ramamurthy’s Mohinder Suresh, Jimmy Jean-Louis’ Haitian and a few others. The new cast includes Zachary Levi (Chuck), Judith Shekoni (EastEnders), Henry Zebrowski (A to Z), Robbie Kay (Once Upon a Time), Kiki Sukezane, Ryan Guzman (Pretty Little Liars) and more. Heroes Reborn picks up five years after the end of Heroes where a year ago, a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas left the city decimated. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives. Major storylines introduced in the first couple hours are HRG getting back in the game after a conspiracy nut tracks him down and clues him into the truth behind what happened in Odessa. A couple of vigilantes that lost someone in the attack and blames those with abilities. A teen in hiding that doesn’t know how his ability works. A young woman trying to track down her missing father. And, a few others. It was very interesting dipping back into the world or Heroes, let’s just hope this is more season one than subsequent seasons of that one. Watch the Trailer for Heroes Reborn Will you be checking out NBC’s Heroes Reborn when it premieres Thursday, September 24th with back-to-back episodes? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews FOX’s Rosewood | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:55

In this episode we preview FOX’s new medical procedural Rosewood. It stars Morris Chestnut (Legends, The Best Man films), Jaina Lee Ortiz (The After), Gabrielle Dennis (The Game), Anna Konkle (Maron), Domenick Lombardozzi (Breakout Kings, The Wire) and Lorraine Toussaint (Forever, Orange Is the New Black). Rosewood is a cop/medical procedural set in Miami about the city’s top private pathologist. He consults for the Miami PD and ends up teamed up with a no nonsense detective to uncover the clues nobody else finds while investigating the most challenging cases in the city. In his practice he works with his sister, who is as good in toxicology as he is in pathology, and his sister’s fiancée, a DNA specialist. He and his sister deal with their mother, who is about to have some major life changes, as she likes to hold family gatherings and meddles in his love life. Rosewood has had some major health problems and believes that every moment of life, no matter how small, should be embraced and lived to the fullest. This is the philosophy that pushes him to be good at his job and see details that others don’t, as he is driven to find out why other’s lives were cut short. Rosewood gets off to a rough start, but if you enjoy similarly styled shows like Bones or Castle, you may end up enjoying this as well. Watch the Trailer for Rosewood Will you be checking out FOX’s Rosewood when it premieres Wednesday, September 23rd before Empire? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

theTVaholic Previews CBS’ Limitless | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:01

In this episode we preview CBS’ new action drama thriller Limitless. It stars Jake McDorman (Greek), Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Hill Harper (Covert Affairs, CSI: NY), Mary Elisabeth Mastrantonio (Grimm, Hostages) and Bradley Cooper reprises his role as Edward Morra from the movie. Limitless is set as a sequel to the feature film about a man that comes across the brain-boosting power of NZT. He uses it to help out his family, but ends up in the middle of the FBI and now Senator Morra. To keep taking the drug, he begins working for the FBI to help some complex cases. He doesn’t know the FBI is studying him and they don’t know his relationship with Morra, who seems to have his own plans for him. Limitless is the better of the two new fall shows that are set as sequels to a movie. Check out my thoughts on the other one, Minority Report. Watch the Trailer for Limitless Will you be checking out CBS’ Limitless when it premieres Tuesday, September 22nd following NCIS: New Orleans? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews FOX’s Scream Queens | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:34

In this episode we preview FOX’s new horror comedy Scream Queens. It stars Jaime Lee Curtis (New Girl, Halloween films), Emma Roberts (American Horror Story: Coven & Freakshow), Lea Michele (Glee), Skyler Samuels (The Nine Lives of Chloe King, The Gates), Oliver Hudson (Nashville, Rules of Engagement), Abigail Breslin (Zombieland film), Niecy Nash (The Soul Man, Getting On), Ariana Grande (Sam & Cat, Victorious) and Nick Jonas (Kingdom). Scream Queens takes place on a college campus, mostly around the Kappa House sorority. All hell breaks loose when the dean of students announces that they have to allow anyone to pledge, not just the elite. Meanwhile, People start dying as a devil clad killer runs amok on campus. Scream Queens is billed as a horror comedy of which I found to be neither scary nor funny. If you are big into horror or Ryan Murphy produced shows, your mileage may vary. Watch the Trailer for Scream Queens Will you be checking out FOX’s Scream Queens when it premieres Tuesday, September 22nd with back-to-back episodes? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews NBC’s Blindspot | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:43

In this episode we preview NBC’s new action-thriller drama Blindspot. It stars Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back), Jaimie Alexander (Thor films, Kyle XY) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Broadchurch, Without a Trace). Blindspot is about a beautiful woman, with no memories of her past, that is found naked in Times Square with her body totally covered in some very intricate tattoo work. Finding her sets off a complex mystery that gets the full attention of a team at the FBI. They begin to use what seems to be a road map on her body into figuring out a larger conspiracy, while she tries to figure out who she used to be. Blindspot is a fun thriller with leads that are suited to this type of action and a potentially interesting mystery that should at least be able to last a season. Watch the Trailer for Minority Report Will you be checking out NBC’s Blindspot when it premieres Monday, September 21st? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews FOX’s Minority Report | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:58

In this episode we preview FOX’s new sci-fi drama Minority Report. It stars Meagan Good (Deception), Stark Sands (Generation Kill), Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show), Nick Zano (What I Like About You) and Laura Regan (Murder in the First). Minority Report is based on the international blockbuster film by executive producer Steven Spielberg and the first of his films to be adapted for television. It follows the partnership between a man with partial visions of the future and a cop dealing with her past. Together they attempt to stop the worst crimes before they happen in Washington, D.C. in 2065, which is 10 years after the end of Precrime, where criminals were identified and take out of society before they committed those crimes. To be able to do this they relied on three precogs, or precognitives, who were able to see into the future. Now, they are back to solving the crimes the old fashioned way with a leaning towards sophisticated high tech gadgets and systems. Minority Report takes an interesting idea and premise, that being creating a sequel to a movie set in an interesting future, but ultimately doesn’t execute on the idea all that well. Watch the Trailer for Minority Report Will you be checking out FOX’s Minority Report when it premieres Monday, September 21st? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

theTVaholic Previews CBS’ Life in Pieces | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:33

In this episode we preview CBS’ new comedy Life in Pieces. It stars James Brolin (Pensacola: Wings of Gold), Dianne Wiest (In Treatment), Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom), Angelique Cabral (Enlisted), Colin Hanks (The Good Guys) and Zoe Lister Jones (Whitney). Life In Pieces is a single-camera comedy about a big family and the wacky things they get into and milestone moments they share. There are three siblings. The middle child that may have just found that special someone in a co-worker. The youngest brother and his wife that have just had their first child. And, the oldest sister and her husband preparing for a coming too soon empty nest. Their parents are dealing with getting older. The stories of the family unfold in four short stories each episode, as they enjoy the little pieces of time they have together, because they are what life is all about. Life in Pieces feels a lot like ABC’s Modern Family, just with slightly different family dynamics and a twist in how the stories are told each week. Watch the Trailer for Life in Pieces Will you be checking out CBS’ Life in Pieces when it premieres Monday, September 21st? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

theTVaholic Previews FX’s The Bastard Executioner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:42

In this episode we preview FX’s new drama The Bastard Executioner. It stars Lee Jones in the title role, Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Flora Spencer Longhurst, Sam Spruell (The Last Ship) and Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy). Sutter is also the creator, executive producer, director and writer. Also of note, Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as a recurring role. It’s about a guy that has lost everything and is on a quest for revenge along with a group of other fellows, but ends up having to take on the persona of an executioner. This may or may not be part of a grand plan for his life, as he and others have visions of what they are supposed to do. But, if he is found out, it will be the end of him and his friends. The Bastard Executioner feels very much like Sons of Anarchy, as it covers many of the same themes, just in a completely different setting and time. It’s horses and swords instead of motorcycles and guns. Watch the Trailer for The Bastard Executioner Will you be checking out FX’s The Bastard Executioner when it premieres Tuesday, September 15th with a two-hour episode? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

theTVaholic Previews NBC’s The Carmichael Show | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:11

In this episode we preview NBC’s new comedy The Carmichael Show. It stars Jerrod Carmichael, Amber West (Greek), David Alan Grier (In Living Color) and Loretta Devine (Boston Public). It’s about a guy that has just moved in with his girlfriend, she who is studying to be a therapist, and their generational clash with his overbearing parents and dealings with his directionless brother. The Carmichael Show feels both retro, like a ’90s sitcom developed around a stand-up, and oddly topical in that it tackles social issues of the present. Watch the Trailer for The Carmichael Show Will you be checking out NBC’s The Carmichael Show when it premieres Wednesday, August 26th with back-to-back episodes? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.

 theTVaholic Previews TNT’s Public Morals | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:45

In this episode we preview TNT’s new ’60s era cop drama Public Morals from creator, director, executive producer and writer Edward Burns (Mob City). It also stars Michael Rapaport (Justified), Elizabeth Masucci (Inside Amy Schumer), Katrina Bowden (30 Rock) and many other recognizable faces like Timothy Hutton (American Crime, Leverage), Brian Dennehy, Neal McDonough (Suits, Boomtown), Robert Knepper (Texas Rising, Prison Break) and Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Castle). The show is set against the back drop of early 1960s New York City and a group of plain clothes police officers from the Public Morals division that are tasked with keeping things like gambling, prostitution and other vices under wraps. The show has a similar feel to the short-lived Mob City that was also on TNT and also starred Burns, Knepper and McDonough, as it is a period piece about cops and mobsters. Watch the Public Morals Trailer Will you be checking out TNT’s Public Morals when it premieres Tuesday, August 25th? I give my opinion and overview in the audio above, so take a listen and then let me know what you think in the comments or via Twitter @theTVaholic.
