deep house lounge podcast #055 – [Darius Kramer] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:34

“Mixes are time capsules of sound. Each capturing a moment in time that will not be repeated the same way. Each mix is meant to transport the listener in their own time machine to their own destination. These are soundtracks for daily living…” Darius is a self proclaimed “House Addict”. He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early ’90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio. He was hooked from then on. He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back. When he moved to Vancouver in the late ’90’s, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records. Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves. Today, Darius is happily married with a young son, but his love for house music hasn’t died. Darius was busy making a name for himself in the underground scene in 2015 with mixes released around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.  deep house lounge podcast #053 – [Someone Else] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:56

Someone Else is Philadelphia’s Sean O’Neal, co-founder of the record labels Foundsound, Little Helpers, Tuning Spork and Fuzzy Box. He comes from a musical family: His grandfather was a high school music teacher and also played bass with Bill Haley and the Comets, while his father was also in various rock bands throughout the ’50s and ’60s. In his early youth, Sean lived a cheeseball life performing in choirs and musical plays. He liked to sit with his dad and grandfather watching and listening to Spike Jones, a comical bandleader from the ’50s who’d often make music by hitting random objects in the room. In his teenage years, Sean was playing guitar and synths in indie rock bands, while being a huge fan of shoegaze and krautrock. Since ‘94, Sean has been the force behind ever-evolving, kitsch-driven electro-pop outfit Flowchart, releasing dozens of albums, singles and EPs on labels such as Darla, Morr Music, Carrot Top and his own Fuzzy Box imprint. In around ’98, O’Neal got hooked on IDM, techno and house, having already fallen in love with artists like The Orb, Plastikman, King Tubby and Matthew Herbert. He became intrigued by Herbert’s use of field recordings and found-sounds, which recalled a similar feeling to what he gained from the music of Spike Jones. As his love for minimal techno solidified, Sean teamed up with Jay Haze and Bjoern Hartmann, and together they launched the Tuning Spork label. While making dance music with field recordings became more and more his shtick, Sean grew close to Kate Iwanowicz (a.k.a. Miskate) and Sylvain Takerkart (a.k.a. Fusiphorm), and together they launched the foundsound and unfoundsound record labels. Both labels continue to gain increasing recognition while offering a unique facet to the modern-day minimal scene. Throughout the years, Sean also co-produced events in Philadelphia and New York, and spent a lot of time freelance writing for music magazines and newspapers such as xlr8r and Philadelphia City Paper. In recent years, Sean’s production skills have garnered respect among internationally renowned DJs and labels alike, reflected by his massive discography of releases and remixes for labels like Musik Krause, Tuning Spork, foundsound, Mo’s Ferry, Microcosm, Nummer, Kickboxer, Sender, Alphahouse, roman-photo, level non-zero, Mule Musiq, hello? repeat, Revolver and many others. This was accompanied by extensive tours, taking in Russia, Argentina, Europe, Canada, Japan and many American cities. O’Neal is also active in Philadephia’s deep house, minimal techno and experimental communities, co-organizing various events whose guests have included the likes of Magda, Matthew Dear, Sammy Dee, Geoff White, Jeff Milligan and Dan Bell.  deep house lounge podcast #050 – [DJ Dao] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:21

Been spinning a long time, 21 years, more than half my life. Have spun nearly every genre, have vacillated between taking this very seriously and not giving a fuck. It is more than a hobby, this is integrating an artistic conversation spanning the globe and it is my passion. This particular conversation we’ve been having in the Deep (house/tech/breaks) arena is particularly dope, and I’m excited to be a participant by spinning & producing that which moves my ass and soul, and raises my hands to the sky. Mixing is my zen-state. It isn’t an intentional act as much as it communion with sound, with the muse.I don’t plan Sets. My mantra is the ‘right song at the right time’, and you’re never going to answer that question until you’re in the moment. I kicked the vinyl habit in ‘05, but I still use CDJs.. You can hear the excitement in a live-mixed set, when there’s no net, when the DJ is a sneeze away from a trainwreck. I like a slippery beat or two, to flash your cards, to show this is real, this is Now, and we’re deep in it, together. I also only like to mix deep, 3 mins or so. It isn’t deep music unless you mix it deep, over your head in sounds, dancing with them as if Tai Chi, rolling them into another as if an Akido master. The tracks dictate how they want to be mixed, the moment dictates what energy wants to emerge next; a DJ isn’t there to be intentional, we’re supposed to be receptive. You can hear the difference. [PODCAST TRACKLIST] 01. The Future is Yours (Adriatique rmx) – Kraak & Smaak 02. Ensemble – Sebastian Russell 03. Igelit Shoes – Martin Waslewski 04. Ektschn – Beatamines 05.  deep house lounge podcast #049 – [Keith Landis] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:52

As one of the founding DJs / promoters behind Philadelphia’s legendary Special K and Circle parties (IT Parties, Yo-man), O’Keef played a vital role in pushing house music as the backbone of Philadelphia’s local rave scene throughout the 90s. During this time, he brought his unique blend of heady tech-house to Philly through numerous Philly-based residencies (Fluid, Palmer Social Club, and Transit) and hundreds of parties across the country. Feeling uninspired by the scene in the early 2000s, he took some much needed time away from the scene, but never from the music. O’Keef has re-emerged over the last few years, DJing very much under the radar at select parties (Ovum, Shakedown, Goodiem Drumsong and PEX) and has quietly regained the respect of many of his longtime peers and many of the newer DJs. In addition, Okeef he has begun producing with his long time collaborator Rob Paine under the guise of “Circle”, with 6 releases across Leftroom, Worship Recordings and Dubwise labels.  deep house lounge podcast #047 – [Maggs Bruchez] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:40

After unknowningly and simultaneously dating the same supermodel for 3 years, Will Maggs & Andre Bruchez met at a private party in the top floor suite of a 53 story building in downtown Philadelphia. After discussing how much more upset they were with the evening’s soundtrack than that of their previous shared love, together they decided to put aside their differences and vowed to educate the public on what proper dance music should sound like. With Will’s background in improvisational jazz saxophone and Andre’s ability to reproduce animal sounds with synthesizers the duo began creating their own dancefloor symphonies and learned to mix music (or DJ) as a means of sharing their passion for euphoric groovy beats. Fast forward a few more years and the duo has refined their sound with a collection of releases on various international dance music labels. They’ve also launched their own label, emby, which is an outlet for their network of groove-music enthusiast friends. [PODCAST TRACKLIST] 01. Moshun – Today 02. Cosmonaut Grechko – Luv 03.  deep house lounge podcast #045 – [Chris Udoh] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:04:38

If the love of music could be measured by ones constant persistence, then Chris Udoh is a true testament to this persistence. Chris has been a DJ in one form or another for over 18 years. By most accounts, his experience is unparalleled. Chris started his professional journey in 1985 at the age of 16 in St. Louis, MO. where he played various clubs and had his music featured in several top fashion shows in and around the region. In 1989 Chris moved to Atlanta, GA. and started a 3 year residency at Atlantas legendary Lorettas nightclub. A few years later Chris met Chris Clark a.k.a. Deep C in a record store and the two quickly became friends. Each of them, along with producer Chris Brann, went on to form the Wamdue Kids. The trio had numerous club hits on such notable labels as Acacia, Studio K7!, Sounds, Guidance and of course, Strictly Rhythm. Chris moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 1996 to test new waters and found himself in very good company in the city of brotherly love. He quickly became one of the citys most respected DJs. In 2000 came the formation of Tigerhook Corp., a Wu-Tang type collection of like-minded DJs and producers that really boggles the mind. Spearheaded by the highly energetic Randal Jones, this crew of nine has releases on prestigious labels including The End, Oblong, Siesta LTR, Shaboom, Hooj Choons and even Bedrock. Chris Udoh has traveled the globe extensively. Most notably, he held a two-year residency at Fabric Nightclub in London from 2000 to 2002, playing at the club over a dozen times. Currently, Chris has taken time out to concentrate on solo productions as well as collaborations with other electronic dance music artists. [PODCAST TRACKLIST] 01.
