 Insert Coin Theater Episode 13 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:18

We're baaaaack! Hope you all had a good holiday. Check out Street Fighter X Mega Man: http://www.capcom-unity.com/mega_man. It's FREE! Check out Balloonbear's excellent music! We hear Datagoth in this episode, but there's so much more from Balloonbear and the netlabel Lowtoy. http://balloonbear.bandcamp.com :: http://soundcloud.com/balloonbear :: http://www.lowtoy.com Music from Dragon's Dogma (Aubrey Ashburn), Street Fighter X Mega Man (A_Rival aka Luke Esquivel), and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (Mitch Heberling). We discuss game reviews, trophies, and revisiting old games as well as a bit about Dragon's Dogma, one of Jorge's favorites. Episode 13 Return of the Podcast Music Street Fighter X Megaman - Goes With Everything By A_Rival aka Luke Esquivel Street Fighter X Megaman is a PC fighter developed by a Singaporean fan of both series, Seow Zong Hui. It was picked up by Capcom and released in 2012 for free for Windows to celebrate the 25th anniversary of both series. It is available for free from the Capcom-Unity website - the link is in the show notes for this episode. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - Shop By Mitch Heberling off the Daggerfall Soundtrack Queen Barenziah is incorrectly depicted as a Breton in the game, despite the lore depicting her as a Dark Elf. This was later corrected in the next game, Morrowind, where she makes an appearance in the Tribunal expansion. Datagoth By Balloonbear Balloonbear is a chiptune artist based in Moscow, Russia. The music has a house/EDM flair to it, but keeps rooted to classic gaming styles. Datagoth is released on the Lowtoy netlabel, which can be found at lowtoy.com. You can find more of Balloonbear’s work there or via Soundcloud at soundcloud.com/balloonbear and Bandcamp ay balloonbear.bandcamp.com. Reminiscent of something you’d hear in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon in a nightclub scene of some sort. Dragon’s Dogma - Eternal Return (Dragon’s Dogma Main Theme) By Aubrey Ashburn Just talk about the game! Topics T-shirt run successful! Are game reviews fundamentally flawed? From outmyownwindow.com comes an article that is titled “Video Game Reviews are Garbage,” breaking into why we number or letter-grade games since it’s such an arbitrary and subjective thing. The trick? Finding reviewers that tend to match up with your own views and sticking with them as much as possible. How do you feel achievements/trophies have affected gaming? Some folks game just to get these achievements and ignore the game they play. Does it encourage bad games? braunheiser on reddit posed some interesting questions. Going back to old games from your youth, did you find the experience different playing as an adult? Was it satisfying or disappointing?

Insert Coin Theater Episode 12: Nerdcore Feature #2 with mc chris | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:01

The Game of the Year episode! Thanks, chris, you're the bomb-diggity! Also, new branding, t-shirt sales, and more!   Episode Music Bubsy - Hillstream Blues Composed by Matt Bernardo There's a hidden credit line in the game's ROM which reads: (C) 1992 Basement Boys Software Basement Boys Software were a group famous for making hacking tools on the Commodore 64 in the late 80s, who had some members go on to Chip Level Designs, a company that used to provide sound programming for a number of SNES titles. The same credit appears in Cool Spot. Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind 40 Winks - Bedroom Possibly composed by Steve Duckworth 40 Winks was almost released on the N64 but was ultimately cancelled. It went so far as to even be reviewed in Official Nintendo Magazine. Jetforce Gemini - Title Composed Robin Beanland and Graeme Norgate According to the Lead Programmer, Paul Mountain, the entire game took elements from different games. It had Super Mario 64's open world and free-roaming nature for scale, Quake-style "attack and cover" mechanics, and Super Metriod's collecting and upgrading of weapons. Nerdcore Feature: luigi By mc chris mc chris is a multitalented artist, who not only raps with the best of them, but is also a writer and voice actor.  Insert Coin Theater Episode 11 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:44

We discuss Assassin's Creed: Unity, PlayStation Experience, No Man's Sky, Drawn to Death, OCRemix turning 15 (happy birthday OCRemix!), and threshold of game cost to length and story it delivers. Chiptune by Absolute Horizon - $wag & Spell, an excellent piece that blew our minds. Check him out at https://soundcloud.com/absolutehorizon! Episode 11 Notes   Episode Music Diddy Kong Racing - Everfrost Peak Composed by David Wise A sequel to Diddy Kong Racing called Donkey Kong Racing was announced at E3 in 2001, with a trailer and a press release being the only pieces of the game that came to light as Rare was acquired by Microsoft in 2002, which forfeit the rights to Donkey Kong before the game completed. Elebits - To the Amusement Park! Composed by Naoyuki Sato and Michiru Yamane Elebits was called Eledees in the PAL territories, which started development almost immediately after the Wii’s hardware was demonstrated to Konami employees, the producer Shingo Mukaitoge wanting to take advantage of the pointing and motion capabilities of the Wii Remote. Fun fact: Robbie the Rabbit, from the Silent Hill series, can be found in the Amusement Park; his item description says, “He loves ketchup. (That’s not blood!)” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles: The Arcade Game - Sidewalk Composed by Mutsuhiko Izumi and Miki Higashino In the game’s data are four different types of pizza, where only one made the final cut, which restores health. The other types of pizza were “speedy,” “whirly,” and “sappy” - each pizza’s color corresponded to one of the four turtles. Chiptune of the Week: $wag and Spell By Absolute Horizon https://soundcloud.com/absolutehorizon - Artist from San Marcos, TX. Currently working on a physical cassette tape with artist Fierce Deity, each producing one side of the tape. About 100 will be made! Check out Absolute Horizon on Bandcamp and support their efforts. Discussion Topics Assassin's Creed Unity issues, cancelled DLC and new game already in production?   PS Experience: new titles, Street Fighter V (PS4 and PC exclusive); Katamari Damacy’s creator has a new game called Wattam; indie titles to hit Sony platforms: Super Time Force, Shovel Knight, Bastion, Skytorn, The Forest, and Severed.   Drawn to Death, new shooter from mind behind Twisted Metal. - takes place within margins of a teenage boy’s notebook. A new God of War game coming; gameplay demo of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, new trailer at PlayStation Experience.   OCRemix is 15 years old - happy birthday OCRemix!!!   Found on Twitter between Tyrone Rodriguez and Adam Tierney: What is too short for a game? What is the cost threshold for length of game? Is it even ABOUT the length of game?

 Insert Coin Theater Episode 10 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:40

The tenth episode is here! A new intro, discussion of Gameboy emulator patents, WoW being 10, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Battlefield Bad Co 2, Sony PS Experience and No Man's Sky. Plus some talk about transparency with donations. Music by Graz, an insanely talented artist from Seattle, WA. Way more talented than we could hope to be, he graciously lent us his song Ravepunk to listen to. Check out his Bandcamp - graz.bandcamp.com - or his site - grazcore.com. Thanks Graz, you rule! Secret of Evermore (SNES) - Horace; Composer Jeremy Soule While in Highschool, Jeremy Soule played a lot of games and felt that soundtracks "lacked drama and intensity." He composed a demo to showcase what he believed music should sound like in games, and showed it to Square. They hired him as an in-house composer, and set him to work on Secret of Evermore as his first game. I’m glad they did, because Jeremy Soule went on to create a huge catalogue of game music, including Icewind Dale, SOCOM: US Navy Seals, Company of Heroes, Elder Scrolls Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and WoW: Mists of Pandaria. Dr. Mario (NES) - Chill; Composer Hirokazu Tanaka If the player destroys four or more viruses at once, a hidden Super Mario Bros. theme will play. This only works on the Game Boy version. Also, the composer for this game has been on Insert Coin Theater before in Episode 7, also the composer for Metroid and for numerous other games that I’m sure will make an appearance on the show someday, such as Earthbound, Tetris and Kid Icarus. Spyro 2 Season of Flame (GBA) - Minty Mines; Composers Robert Baffy and Ed Cosico In this game, Spyro was intended to swim, and the developers even included over 500 frames of animation depicting this and it went so far as to end up on the back of the European box art, but it was ultimately cut from the final version. Also, there are two typos in the text during the introduction of the game, the word “breathe” being replaced with the word “breath.” CHIPTUNE: Ravepunk by Graz graz.bandcamp.com - chiptune artist from Seattle, WA, USA. Graz has been producing music since 2001 and has been making “chiptunes style” or “fakebit” since 2006. In the past 3 months, he’s started using Gameboy hardware for production, and put a new album out call “Subatomic Polyphonics” last month. “Subatomic Polyphonics” was created using an original Gameboy, a DMG01, and an aftermarket music production program called “Little Sound DJ” or “LSDJ” for short. The entire album is a fun mix of dancey tunes with some deep beats and some light blips to keep it fun. You can get this album on his bandcamp for free, but it is always nice to put a bit into Graz’s coffers for all the hard work. Also be sure to pay a visit to his site at Grazcore.com. Those links will be available on this episode’s notes at insertcointheater.com if you should need them! Discussion Topics Site updated - donations accepted! Transparency and ethics in handling the money is priority one. Money used to improve show and give back where possible. Also added Jorge to the about page and fixed the Feedback and Suggestions page. New intro! Old intro was by Rolemusic, “Another beek beep beer please” from album gigs ‘n contest. New one is from Wizwars, “Game Boy Rock!!” from album Game Boy Rock!! Nintendo patents Gameboy emulator. Attempt to destroy current emulation scene, or is this a play to break into the mobile market finally? WoW has been going for TEN YEARS. Halo Master Chief Collection matchmaking issues STILL not fixed Super Smash Bros. Wii U looks pretty sweet! Dark Souls 2 seeing a new-gen remaster. Thoughts on remasters/upgrades for new gen? Sony PlayStation Experience event in Vegas on December 6th and 7th. Promises that Vita will be prominent and that there will be a “super special” announcement regarding No Man’s Sky. Featured devs include Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision, From Software (Armored Core,

We talk a ton of topics, from Sonic's new look, to Nerd Block & Arcade Block, to GamerGate, zombies, overdone topics of gaming and in gaming, and more! Awesome music from Super Smash Bros. by Hirokazu Ando, Bioshock by Gary Schyman, and Astal from Tatsuyuki Maeda and Tatsuya Kousaki. Chiptune provided by the uber-awesome Josh Zimmerman - My Pet Cloud from the upcoming album of the same name. Check him out at http://joshzimmerman1.bandcamp.com - his new album drops mid-December! Thanks Josh!     Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ending (Staff Roll); Composer Hirokazu Ando Fun fact: Super Smash Bros. started life as a title called Dragon King: The Fighting Game during its prototyping stage, and it featured no Nintendo characters.   Bioshock: Through the Docks; Composer Gary Schyman Little Sisters, who are the gatherers of the game, originally were planned to be sea slugs. Because no one could really pity these creatures, another idea was drawn up of a Doberman in a wheelchair, and the idea of a frog with a funnel in its anus was concocted at about the same time.   Astal: The Journey Begins; Composers Tatsuyuki Maeda and Tatsuya Kousaki 2D side-scroller with hand-drawn graphics. In Japan it’s known as Kisuishou Densetsu Astal (Shining Crystal Legend Astal). Released on Sega Saturn to positive reviews, but sold poorly. The reason for the poor sales may be because the spine of the case did not feature the game’s name, as most sales displays at the time had the case with the spine out.   CHIPTUNE: My Pet Cloud by Josh Zimmerman Artist from Charlottesville, Virginia. Title track from the upcoming album “My Pet Cloud” - http://joshzimmerman1.bandcamp.com. Album set to release mid-December.   Discussion Topics: Sonic’s new design Is 2014 a weak year in gaming? LittleBigPlanet Most overdone/boring topics in gaming Arcade Block Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals GTA 5

 Insert Coin Theater Episode 8 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:28

Jorge & Tim talk Rev3Games, Adam Sessler,  Master Chief Collection, Assassin's Creed Unity bugs and glitches, Mega Ran's kickstarter, best innovations in games, and more! Chiptune by TommyTSW - Moments in Time. Thanks for sharing! http://tommytsw.bandcamp.com Buy the album! Music from Jerry Martin (SimCopter), Kevin Riepl (Gears of War), Dan Hess (Pilot Wings 64). Thanks for listening! Songs: Pilot Wings 64: Birdman; Composer Dan Hess Pilot Wings 64 was a launch title for the N64. It was shown off at Nintendo Space World in Nov 1995 when the console was first unveiled and called the “Ultra 64”.   Gears of War: We’re Under Attack!; Composer Kevin Riepl Kevin Riepl (pronounced Ripple) composed the music for many titles, a lot of which seem to have a militaristic feel, including Unreal Tournament 2003/4, Unreal Tournament 3, Crackdown 2, Huxley, Dead to Rights, and Twisted Metal: Black.   SimCopter: Jazz 1; Composer Jerry Martin SimCopter was the first game to feature Simlish, which has been used most commonly in The Sims since. There is also an easter egg that causes half-naked men to crowd around your helicopter and hug and kiss on certain dates. A bug caused hundreds of them to swarm around the helicopter and be slashed up by the blades and then need to be air-lifted to the hospital, earning the player money. It was found shortly after release and removed from later copies of the game; the designer being fired upon discovery for adding unauthorized content to the game and causing Maxis to miss a Christmas season release.   CHIPTUNE THIS EPISODE: Moments in Time by TommyTSW from the album Moments in Time Brisbane, Australia - tommytsw.bandcamp.com - Relaxed and expressive; the stringed instruments really add a layer of emotiveness that I don’t think could be captured normally with just the chip sounds. An extremely well-designed piece that would be right at home in a game like Fez. Entire album is enjoyable and if you like this song you’ll definitely like the rest of the album.   Mega Ran, a nerdcore artist who uses samples of Mega Man game music, is holding a kickstarter to get the documentary about Mega Ran and a live band from Mike Cardoza called Mega Lo Mania on Netflix, iTunes, Redbox, and Amazon. Hit $5,000 goal; stretch goals feature receiving a new Megaman album by Christmas, a vinyl of his 2015 album, the Mega Man album on a custom NES cartridge, and more. -- Play Mega Ran’s advo for his kickstarter.   Discussion Topics: Rooster teeth - top 10 innovations in games. Top one was online multiplayer.   Halo MCC came out! Best Halo game?   Coming out soon: GTA V (PS4, Xbox One) DA: I (PS4, Xbox One, PC) Super Smash Bros. WiiU Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for 3DS
