North Philadelphia's Bryant Jennings scored a 35-second knockout to stay undefeated on Saturday afternoon with a win over Chris Koval at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.The 27-year-old heavyweight (15-0, 7 KOs) scored two quick knockdowns, which prompted the referee to stop the bout. Jennings connected with a left for his first knockdown and followed up with a right hook for the winner. Jerry Belmontes passed the toughest test of his four-year pro career Saturday at Prudential Center. Belmontes, 23, overcame some defensive failures against gritty Josesito Collado to win a unanimous decision in an eight-round, junior lightweight fight on the Tomasz Adamek-Travis Walker undercard. Belmontes, of Corpus Christi, Texas, improved to 17-0 by winning an entertaining fight on the scorecards of all three judges.Judges Henry Grant and Emil Conforti scored Belmontes a 78-74 winner. Judge John McKaie credited Belmontes with a 77-75 victory in a reasonably competitive bout that should help Belmontes make the transition from prospect to top 15 contender at 130 pounds.

In Germany, Daniel Geale (28-1, 15 KOs) of Australia pulled off the upset of hometown hero Felix Sturm to unify two alphabet belts in a split decision, something hard to earn on the road. Now Geale has done it twice, having also scored a split-decision win against Sebastian Sylvester in Germany in May 2011 to win his other belt. Geale-Sturm was an excellent fight and a very close one, and now Geale, like Golovkin, is looking for a big fight in the future. Denver's Mike Alvarado (33-0, 23 knockouts) will face Rios (30-0-1, 21 KOs) in a junior welterweight bout on Oct. 13 outdoors at the Home Depot Center near L.A.
