Social Media Minute Podcast by RegEd: Google Reader – Last Call for July 1st Closing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:05

Google shuts down its popular RSS reader service July 1st and there are some last minute decisions to make. 1.  Find a new app or platform to aggregate the news sources you care about - we suggest Flipboard and Feedly Flipboard works for the content consumer who intends to "flip" and read favorite content sources on a tablet (iPad and Android). Flipboard will import your Google Reader RSS to save it going forward, as well as continue to grow the web and social sources you review each day. Feedly is more flexible because it accesses your news via the web browser on your computer. However, you users can still download the app for smart phones and/or tablets. Feedly will also import your RSS inventory from Google Reader. 2.  Import your file from Google Reader before July 1st AND manually download your OPML file from Google Reader as a permanent offline backup of all the sources you aggregated in Reader. You can also import this file into an offline RSS reader app on a Windows or Mac PC. Show Notes: Google Reader retirement announcement How to import into Flipboard and Feedly How to export your OPML file from Google Reader (before July 1st)

Social Media Minute Podcast by RegEd: Video – How Can I Leverage It? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:48

Video is a big content arena to participate in. From the modern short form video tools, like Vine (6 seconds), Instagram (the new 15 second video capabilities), to traditional video publishing tools like YouTube (been around a while!) and Vimeo, there's something for everyone. There are also specialized tools, such as Slideshare, where video plays a role along with slide shows and others partial or fully interactive content. Think about common ways you can use video: 1) If you prefer to speak rather than write - can you "talk to the webcam or camera" and have video narratives to share as your articles and commentary? 2) Do you host or present on webinars suitable for public consumption? If so, can you record those? 3) Could a screencast be useful (where you record tasks you carry out on your computer, often while narrating over the video..)? 4) Of course, as mentioned, you also have the new short burst videos from Vine and Instagram… Take a look at how video could play a role in your editorial calendar… Show Notes: Morningstar Vine campaign: "Investing Is…" RegEd's Vine Video Instagram's video news
