Pei Podcast
Summary: We are 5 normal people, in a very abnormal 'situation'. Justin & Lauren (& co.), Chris & Evie, and Candace -- we live in the middle of the jungle in Papua New Guinea... among the Pei tribe . Here we attempt to share the struggles and victories of trying to learn an undocumented language, and bring the Gospel to a completely unreached people group.

Hey all! Thanks for tuning in again today! Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Today we have a unique episode, Candace USUALLY does Fridays, but she is really sick and was evacuated to Goroka to get better. So PLEASE be praying for that! ALSO, we were all really encouraged by a visit from some friends of ours from the USA a few months back, and then DOUBLE ENCOURAGED by the video they made when they got back! It's all in the video, so give it a look, and prepare to be challenged.
A big part of the work we do here to learn Pefiyahe involves writing down this previously unwritten language. This helps us retain what we're hearing better. Evie talks a little about what that looks like day-to-day
Our kids are our first ministry, job and concern. It is a total privelege to be partnered with the only two white kids in our village. They are amazing and we are incredibly concerned about teaching them how to navigate the 3 cultures they are a part of and live at various times in.
We're Siding our houses! Follow along as we collect bush material with our Pei friends!
The video is long enough today... won't bore you with the details. It's about how we get supplies, so WATCH IT!
Lauren juggling the responsibilities of being a mom and learning an undocumented tribal language. She is in a Total Physical Response (TPR) session learning lot of language.
Got a rare glimpse into the very old customs of the Pei as they performed aver 20 songs about spirit manipulation and control. They live such fearful lives. Pray we can get this language to offer hope as soon as possible.
Candace has been stuck in the house due to an infected foot...
When you live in middle of the remotest jungle, everything suddenly gets much more difficult! Just 'simple' grocery shopping becomes an expensive logistics nightmare -- all in a foreign culture and language! Tag along with Evie as she prepares things to go back into the Pei tribe tomorrow!
Many parts of the Church Planting job happen outside of the tribe -- countless supporters give selflessly of their finances to make this happen, and still others work tirelessly as support missionaries on bases like this one...
Lauren tells a little about her homeschool routine and the importance of helping navigate our 3rd Culture Kids
Just a quick explanation of CLA and where we get our Language and Culture from. Fire represents life in the jungle and it also the place that drama, gossip and ongoings of life take place.
This is a clip of us ladies playing our weekly game of UNO with some of our teen girls... man do they LOVE this game!!
Lauren and the kids learning the process of making Sago, the main staple for the men, women and children here in the Sepik. The Pei call it Ya'ale [YA-ahl-ay] and it is like a big chunk of plegm wrapped in a bush leaf. But the big idea is how hard it is to work for and collect this food.
Sitting with one of the oldest men in the tribe and practicing some practical expressions. SImon was telling me that there would be tourists coming to our area to buy his carvings... Also he sees himself on camera and loves it!
