Today on the Idle No More Indigenous Report for part I of II with our guest Ms. Lisa Brunner. Lisa Brunner is a member of the White Earth Ojibwe Nation. Lisa is the Board Chair for White Earth Land Recovery Project. She has worked in the domestic violence and sexual assault field for over 15 years and is the executive director of a non-profit organization whose work addresses violence against Native American and Alaska Native women. Lisa is also a Program Specialist for the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. Ms. Brunner has advocated on the local, state, national and international levels to bring about change to public policy that maintains the horrific realities of violence against Native women and within our Tribal communities. On a national level she has served on panels and focus groups addressing jurisdictional issues that impact the safety of Native women. Lisa has also served on a panel at the United Nations regarding violence against Indigenous Women of North America. Lisa has participated for five years at the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Additionally, Ms. Brunner has served as a Train-the-Trainer for the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) as a “Domestic Violence Indian Country “ Instructor. She has recently assisted FLETC with an Analysis of their DVICTP (Domestic Violence Indian Country Training Program) Curriculum and Curriculum Review and Curriculum Development. Lisa is also a founding member of the National Congress of American Indians, Violence Against Women Task Force. She has also testified at Thematic Hearing on “Violence Against Native Women in the United States” before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. This week on the Idle No More Indigenous Report we have Award Winning Ojibwe author, Patricia Ningewance-Nadeau who is a well known and respected author, publisher, presenter, consultant, interpreter, panelist, producer and professor of the Ojibwe language. Patricia has also been active in Native Language Workshops attended as a Presenter, or Co-Presenter. Patricia has worked in the field of Native Communications where she has hosted, produced and wrote for several television and radio shows. Patricia Ningewance-Nadeau is also known as Waabibizhikiikwe (White Buffalo Woman) of the Bear Clan. Patricia is currently teaching "Advanced Ojibwe" at the University of Manitoba.Patricia’s earlier studies in languages and her own bilingualism and literacy in her own language set the course for her life work. Because of her syllabic literacy, she landed her first job as editor of a native newsletter. That was the beginning. She spent the 35 years in Ontario and Manitoba working for the preservation of her language. Patricia has an extensive resume which includes: sitting on several board of directors for language revitalization, she has been an international presenter and co-presenter at Native Language Workshops.
