 Weave Economics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3210

This week I'm joined by Peter Adefioye, Mica Simone and Ruth Mukete to discuss Weave Economics Black women are estimated to have spent half a trillion dollars on hair care in 2012. That’s more than some countries GDP, including Greece. When I learnt this I was in disbelief considering that there is also much poverty within some African-Caribbean communities. This lead me to my next thought… Where the hell is all this money going and could this revenue be used to strengthen economic power? The weave industry is a multi-billion dollar sector and it's largest consumer group is people of African decent. Today, black people own less than 30% of the black beauty industry, yet we are heavily financing it. This podcast aims to explore • Why do black women spend so much on hair and beauty? • Why aren’t we investing this money in education, housing, healthier foods etc? • Could establishing our own hair and beauty enterprises be a solution to resolving some of the issues within our community? • Is the natural hair phenomenon an opportunity to take ownership of the Afro hair industry? • It’s no secret that some of the weaves that we wear is the natural hair of our Indian, Brazillian and Peruvian sisters. So are they then paid for their donations? Is the hair contributed in an ethical approach?  21st Century Dating | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1732

“Back in the day all you had to do was give a girl flowers and a ride on your horse.” This was the means to find a wife says Dami Olatuyi. These days according this week’s guests Dami, Jonathan and Mel, everything is so much more complicated. Do you call or do you text? Has Snapchat changed the game? How many people can you speak to at once? Are girls now more likely to make the first move? Jonathan, Dami, Melanie and I, had such fun discussing 21st century dating and what this phrase means.  Nicki Minaj & How Relevant Are The Opinion's of Men on Women? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2334

This week we were all very unfortunate to had elaid eyes on Nicki Minaj's Anaconda cover. I really could have done without seeing the butt naked rapper that morning. Charlene and Kieran joined me to discuss whether the explicit artwork was really necessary and what this could mean for her career and her fans. Following a picture which was posted on instagram where a man man comically criticised a woman with tribal marks after having her make-up done, we tried to explore the relevance on male opinions of women. We also tried to decipher why there is so much criticism on social media. Charlene, Kieran and I tell it like it is, no diplomacy involved, so let us know your thoughts and don't forget to subscribe, like and share.  Mother's Day Special - Funny Things Your Mum Does | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2046

Mother's Day is the 30th March. So, we thought that we'd celebrate by listing all the weird and wonderful things that mums do, especially African mums. I'm joined by Jonathan from last week's 'How Not To Be A Side Chick or A Side Man' episode and Segun AKA @segnology (twitter.com/Segnology ). My mum is one of the smartest women I will ever have the privilege of knowing, but there are certain 'mum' things that she does, that will never cease to be funny, for example seeing an ice cream tub in the freezer, only for me to discover that it's filled with rice and black eye beans instead of the ice cream that I was so looking forward to. Or when your mum tries to learn the latest dance and ends up looking like a impaired goat. That's just never okay! loool Haha, but in all seriousness we are very thankful to all the mums who have used their talents to raise us. This podcast is my obscure way of paying homage to that and remembering traits that make our mums, mums.  Life After Rape Ep.6 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1942

Life After Rape is one of the most important interviews 20Something has ever conducted. Lyn is one of the most inspiring women I have ever had the privilege of interviewing. I have seen her save other people’s lives by having the courage to stand up and share her story. During her interview Lyn describes life after rape; her joys and nightmares.
