Today I give you the second part of a General Audience of Benedict XVI from 2012, during which he talks about the importance of silence and prayer.  I started the text yesterday.  The quote from St. Augustine here, at this time of year, is poignant.  The days grow short, the light will grow longer.  Our words are deficient the more we hear the Word. Awe. Awe is the key. http://www.wdtprs.com/adventcazt/2014/141202Advent0105.mp3 Chime in if you listened.  ADVENTCAzT 04: “Wordless is the Word of the Father” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:04:59

Here is a short, daily podcast to help you prepare for the upcoming feast as well as for your personal meeting with the Lord. These podcasts are a token of gratitude to my benefactors who donate and send items from my wishlist.  Thank you! Here is ADVENTCAzT 04, for Wednesday of the 1st Week of Advent. The music used today includes some of THIS. Have some Mystic Monk Coffee and have a listen! PS: The wavy flag is how I’m trying to get to Rome for the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy meeting in January.  This one’s on me. Today I give you the first part of a General Audience of Benedict XVI from 2012, during which he talks about the importance of silence and prayer.  I’ll continue the same text tomorrow.  However, that phrase in the title “Wordless is the Word of the Father, comes from Maximus the Confessor.  Benedict says: “Before this silence of the Cross, St Maximus the Confessor puts this phrase on the lips of the Mother of God: ‘Wordless is the Word of the Father, who made every creature which speaks, lifeless are the eyes of the one at whose word and whose nod all living things move!’”  It is interesting to connect the wood of the Cross to the wood of the Crib.  Similarly, the silence of the Word made flesh, who cries out on the Cross, echos how the Eternal Word, become a speechless Child, cries in the Crib.  It seemed to me that a reflection appropriate for Lent, is also useful for Advent. http://www.wdtprs.com/adventcazt/2014/141202Advent0104.mp3 Chime in if you listened.  The Winters of Our Discontent (AUDIO) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:03:14

AUDIO version below ______ Does the sight of several yards of red silk cause you to break out in a sweat, even if only a little, and start to tremble? Do your fingers start to tingle? Do you get the inexplicable urge to tweet about a certain canonist, known for his adroit pastoral skills, his incisive commentary, and his deep love for the Church? Do you find yourself making outrageous comments like “It is time for him to be removed, and to go as quietly as possible”? HERE Do your friends dart their eyes uncomfortably in your presence when you go on and on and blather about his “twisted view of the world,” HERE Do they cough and try to change the subject while you make your venomous ad hominem attacks? HERE Do you lapse into a spittle-flaked nutty when someone mentions canon law? What about the constant and consistent teachings of the Church regarding the nature of marriage? When people speak of the sinfulness of sexual activity outside of marriage and the unnaturalness of homosexual inclinations do you swoon upon your fainting couch? If you have experienced one or more of these symptoms, you may have Burke Derangement Syndrome™. Don’t despair. There is good news. It can be cured with just a few simple steps! A week retreat at a lovely shrine can be arranged to help you with the initial stages of recovery. Here you’ll bask in the healthful glow of the Church’s rich sacramental and liturgical life, and start to feel the healing balm of a devotional life centered not on protesting, riding buses with nuns, and worrying about silly things like the progressive agenda. Slowly your animus towards traditional piety and the comforting embrace of canon law will move you beyond the first step of acknowledging your problem toward a holistic integration. And everyone knows that holistic integration is important! After your retreat, to foster additional healing, we recommend purchasing a copy of Divine Love Made Flesh and Remaining in the Truth of Christ. Expose your heart and soul to the healing balm of a truly great Churchman, with an obvious love both for Christ and for the People of God.   The experience can be deepened through imbibing Mystic Monk Coffee as you read. But wait!  There’s more! Once you feel the effects of normalcy reassert themselves in your nervous system, it will be most salubrious to attend a Pontifical Mass celebrated by the holy Cardinal who was once the catalyst for your psychological condition. Rather than eliciting paroxysms of unpleasant logorrhea and episodes of the vapors, the sight of a cappa magna will cause your heart and soul to leap to new heights as you begin to enter into the Tradition of our Holy Mother the Church. Soon enough, you’ll find yourself longing for a regular dose of Tradition. You’ll have less and less in common with the false “friends” with whom you once shared the dangerous disorder of… Burke Derangement Syndrome™. Brought to you by … Mystic Monk Coffee “It’s Swell!” … and … The Zed-Heads “You’re all going to die!” Share/Bookmark

OLDIE PODCAzT: Friday in the Octave of Pentecost | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:53:29

OLDIE PODCAzT from Friday in the Octave of Pentecost in 2008. ___________ Today is Friday in the Octave of Pentecost, or at least it ought to be in in the Novus Ordo as it is in the older, Traditional Roman Calendar. This is the fifth PODCAzT for the Pentecost Octave. Today we will look at some customs associated with Pentecost, very beautiful.  These customs informed the rhythm of people’s lives for centuries. Then we will drill into the image of the dew of the Holy Spirit. Which, as Preserved would put it, it isn’t as hard as some bishops think.  We enlist the help of a very wise Bishop, the great Ambrose of Milan (+397) who always explained hard things to his people rather than assume that they were too stupid to get the point.  Ambrose wrote a work On the Holy Spirit in which he explains the dew that descended on Gideon’s fleece in the Book of Judges.  So, we will hear Judges 6 and 7 and then Ambrose’s allegorical commentary.  Fascinating stuff. This reading from Scripture and the Patristic commentary, gives a sense of how the Father’s worked with Scripture and how their reflections can be useful for us today. Of course, I have lots of comments along the way. For music, we have an antiphon for Pentecost in Gregorian chant, and a bitter sweet song Dancing at Whitsun, a folk song, which speaks of the rhythm of our lives and the challenges we endure.  I like this version best.  There is something right about it being sung by a woman.  There is a Fanstasia super Kom, Heiliger Geist BWV 651 by J.S. Bach on the pipe organ, which Holy Church recommends above all other instruments.  We hear a haunting Byzantine Communion for mid-Pentecost, in other words this very week and at the end a real change of pace, which you can listen to yourselves.  OLDIE PODCAzT 58: Ember Days; Chrysostom on St. Matthias; Prayer to the Holy Spirit | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:37:47

Here is an oldie PODCAzT from 2008 for Pentecost Ember Wednesday. As I wrote back when… ____ Today is Wednesday in the Octave of Pentecost, or at least it ought to be in in the Novus Ordo as it is in the older, Traditional Roman Calendar. This is the third PODCAzT for the Pentecost Octave. Today we learn about what Ember Days are, these beautiful days which helped Catholics for may centuries regulate the rhythm of their lives in the consecration of the seasons of the year, and learn to use God’s creation with moderation. Then we hear from St. John Chrysostom (+407) on the choice of St. Matthias to replace Judas who had fallen away. I have comments about bishops. Finally, we hear a marvelous old prayer invoking the help of the Holy Spirit, appropriate in this Octave of Pentecost.
